I just bought the chargrilled Akron jr for $109. Walmart has them and also Amazon but it is on backorder.

That's the lowest I have seen. I wanted something like a small big green egg to cook Steak and burgers. this one heats up really fast with little flare up when you close the lit. I think people do slow cook with some extra accessories maybe but I think it is a bit small to do the big cut of meats

I was at Walmart and they have the big one marked clearance for $199 as well. Seems like a good deal if you need a big one.

If you do buy one of these "inexpensive" eggs keep it covered and out of the weather because the weak link on these grills are the legs...... The "ceramic egg part" is very heavy but the legs are cheaply made. I have a Komodo Joe cooker and the food tastes great!

It is KAMADO. Komodo is a large monitor lizard that has you for dinner. The komodo dragon is found on a few Indonesian islands and the they don't bother with BBQ sauce.

A grill is most definitely a tool. That shiny thing inside your tool box that never saw action is less of a tool than my Weber Genesis that is used several times a week. Rant over :)

I would love it if more members start posting other "types" of tools like chef's knife and pizza stone. 'Hot Deal" for a "Garage Sale" certainly involves these items.

If you like tools..... You will LOVE grilling!

This is a garage forum and nothing is better than slow cooking while sitting or working in the garage....... Thanks to the OP for posting!

I had seen this when it dropped in price but held off because I didn't like the color. I just ordered one from Walmart and ill end up painting it a different color.

I bought one when they were $125. Great little cooker. We also have this little beast.

Sorry, this is a tool the same way my Kenmore kitchen stove is...yeah a kitchen knife is a tool, so is a box of bic pens...none of the above belong here tho...SD is more than happy to have anyone browse there and post anything... which is a contribution to its downfall from what is was back in the day. I have no issue seeing stuff like this in off topic subs, but it does belong here.

"NO comparison to a Kamado cooker."

I think the same can be said about this Akron Kamado. My Dad bought this same grill a few years ago b/c he liked my Uncle's Green Egg so much. To start there's nothing Ceramic about this grill. It's like a double wall steel for the insulation which is no where near as good at insulating nor holding the heat like a Ceramic Kamado. The finish is also garbage, 2 years left out on the patio and it was rusting and flaking off. His Weber kettle is over 15 years old and it's held up fine. What I'm trying to say is this this thing is garbage even at $100. I suggest if you want to get into the Kamado grilling save your $100 and put it towards the cost of a ceramic grill like a Vision or a Kamado Joe when they go on sale. If your desperate then just go grab a 22.5" Weber kettle. I can do anything these Green Egg guys can do on my Weber, it just uses more charcoal and charcoal is relatively cheap.

Can't go wrong with a Weber Kettle. I love my Genesis, but only for convenience reasons. Weber Kettle is where my heart is.

^^ This is great advice!...... Basically, You get what you pay for.
Costco has Kamado Joe cookers on Special at their "Road Shows" and you can save some money..... just take a truck to pick it up because they are heavy.
Weber Kettle grills are great for grilling (I have had them for over 40 years) and I still have one in my "grilling arsenal" but fall short on long 12 hour "low and slow" cook times compared to a Kamado. Charcoal cooking on ANY grill is the best fuel to use for taste IMHO.

I would love to have a ceramic Kamado grill but I can't justify the cost. If I want to go low and slow on some brisket or butts I just go over to my in-laws and fire up the Traeger. Fill up the hopper, set it and forget it.

I've actually had some pretty good results with smoking ribs and chicken on my Weber. Using one of the half moon charcoal holders and indirect heat I can keep the temperatures pretty consistent 220-230° as long as it's not too windy. I have to monitor it every hour and continually add lump charcoal but it does a good job. Of course if money was no object I'd get a Kamado.
