AL Sheets?

Anyone know a source for light gauge AL? Like the type used for garage doors?

I have a 2-story garage....the upstairs is insulated....R13 bats with 1" foam sheets. Not exactly fire proof. But, then again, no ignition source up there.

But I'd like to cover it to reduce the fire danger....and it would look better.

I do NOT want to bother with drywall. Part of the reason, no easy way to get it up there.

Suggestions?

The one they sell in hd 12"x25' are really thin for roofing and flashing... not sure if that is a good idea...

the 1/8 diamond plates... they are dam expensive.

I remember seeing the local building supply stores have 4x8 sheet of 22 gauge or 20 gauge zinc plate steel.. not sure how much it is now used to sell for $30 per sheet...

Even at that price, I think a 1/2" sheet of drywall is cheaper... just cut it in 1/2 and lug it up with ease.

Is this thing on

Not a good choice if you are going to heat the place.
Heat rises , having a alum. heatsink. up there, will not do you any favors.
Ask anyone that had alum. case windows.

I agree drywall would be the best option, just cut it down to smaller sheets it would be a little more taping and muddying but that’s really not that big of a deal

Steel supply, garage door company, RV repair company, Gutter supply company, Commercial building supply company (ABC Supply) Not sure what's out in your area to give you specific names.

You could maybe look at rolled section galvanized roofing? Attach vertically to studs with screws on the troughs--you could get a nice look.

(I remember being in more than one design studio/architect's office/cool store where that's what they used for partitions/wall covering.)

Alro...I'd look into Alloy 3003.

They make it dow n to .025" thick but .032" is available in 48 x 96 sheets.

Bring thy loaded wallet though! Drywall would be a pittance comparatively I think.

Thin aluminum is going to be wavy and show all fastening points, at that thickness its basically a giant sheet of trim coil if you've every worked with that product before.

Good news is you can likely score and snap with a knife.
