Nice build in what appears to be a difficult location.

Got a couple of questions ... What is your roof pitch? Are the trusses on 2 ft centers? Did you consider using attic style trusses for second floor storage instead of the standard style? If so, why did you decide against using the attic style?

Thanks, John

Good luck with the hillside shop build! I am from southern AL (Fairhope to be exact), but live in MS now (by way of Memphis, north and south GA, Nashville, TN and Bowling Green,KY). Its a small world, cause I bet we both know another pilot for Fed-Ex out of Memphis, and if you get back down to Puerto Rico, try the Medalla light.

After all that icebreaker, what fun cars/toys do you get to work on? or is it giong to be daily driver storage? Can't wait to see more pics!

jktruck150, I didn't answer your last question....I'll show it soon, but my main project/love, is a 63' split window vette, modified w/ 67' big block hood/ 72' 454 corvette engine. Just love to drive it. I'll post some pictures of it towards the end of the build. Thanks.

John,
The very thing that makes it difficult (Slope/woods) is why we fell in love with the property!!
The roof pitch is 8/12, on 2' centers. We didn't need the attic storage, so didn't consider attic trusses, plus the added cost.... We have plans for other out building storage. Also, in the deep south it gets hot as H-E-double toothpicks in the attic. We don't want to put a/c in so we are going with a white metal roof to keep the heat to a minimum.

very nice! but will 10' be enough for the lift or have you ex the lift out?

Decided to compromise on the ceiling height for the lift I get so that we didn't infringe on the view from our sunroom & house. I'll still have a lift, I just won't be able to have one I park under.

First they made sure everything was square. Then they put up 2 x 4's to support the metal roof. Once they started putting the roof up, it went rather quickly:

So the roof took basically two days to go up:

Wow, what a difference! I especially like the last pic. That's gonna be a nice view.

Thanks. That's the view from our upstairs workout/media room. Beautiful view, especially in the winter with out many leaves on the trees. More pics coming!!!

Things have been going slower lately.... mainly because we are getting toward the end of the build. At the end it gets down to the minutia, where things go at a snails pace to finish all the small stuff.
Only three things to complete before it's finished: The electrical (sounds simple enough....but ohhhh no), the garage doors (sounds big....but ohhhh no), and the clean up (simple no matter how you put it).
First to trench for the electrical from the house:

I won't go into all the details, but as I'm sure most of you know, getting all the details correct to make sure the circuits are correct for lighting...garage doors....future compressors/lifts/tools....takes a bit. We kept running into problems :headscrat

But then the doors started going up:

And last but not least the back garage door:

More to come...

Very nice! Glad to see some Corvette presence in this thread. That always makes things more appealing.

Oh yea, the garage is coming along very nicely. :lol_hitti

The garage is basically finished as far as the build goes. I will have a lot more to do in the future finishing the inside, but I'll post those on other forums, such as flooring, tools, etc, as I get them completed. I figured I would post a few more pics of the finished build.
The garage doors finished from the inside:

The doors from the outside:

A perspective as you drive up around the outside of the house:

And a night shot. My wife told me I had to retake this one, since the Vette in the back is covered up, but I figure I'll retake it and post it on the night shots thread:

Thanks again for all the comments, and support. It's been fun!

Nice build. Love the vette. Watch out for the guys that'll freak out that you put a big block in a 63 split window.

To all who commented thanks, and yes, the vette is very happy in the new garage! I've already had loads of comments on the fact that she's a 63' split window with a 67' big block hood, and a 74' 454 in it!! But who cares.... she's way too much fun to drive:bounce:

Nice build. Make sure when you get ready to finish it, that you put plenty of insulation in the attic.
