The keys on my Radio shack remote keypad have gone wonky from years of use.
I'd like to retrofit a keypad with RFID access.
The current keypad is a 49-452, 4 wire. 2 terminals marked 12V, the other 2 marked SERIAL DATA. There's also a 2 switch DIP switch for addressing.
Anyone made an upgrade to a newer remote keypad and have any recommendations?

You aren't going to be able to do that. Your keypads and other devices need to be compatible with your panel and your Radio Shack panel won't have the ability to integrate with modern features and/or hardware/devices.

if you want to upgrade, the next challenge you will find is working with your service company. Typically, they will want to "upgrade" you to a wireless system (abandoning the wires and sensors you have in your wall...) with any change/upgrade you do.

If you want to keep your wires and sensors, you may need to go with a commercial system and may need to shop for a new monitoring company (if you have one) who will play ball with you.

my alarm comany is exact opposite, they prefer wire over wireless .

They are a gem! Hold on to them!

In our area, all the small alarm companies are being bought out by the big dogs (Brinks and ADT) and they refuse to do anything outside their quick install packaged products. (We had to hunt for a long time to find an independent dealer who would work with us and agree to monitor our wired system.)

If you plan on replacing the alarm just DIY the install.

Get a real panel and pay for the monitoring service. All the real companies use the crappiest sensors anyways. If you have a wired system you can put in commercial motion sensors and the like that will never false alarm.

The central stations are all pretty much the same.

I will add OP if your security panel supports a key switch you can buy a generic RFID relay device and use that to arm/disarm.

I've done that before.

Been with AlarmGrid monitoring for several years now. Switched from Honeywell when the Honeywell system conked out and was no longer supported.

I bought an Ademco Vista 21P system online and connected to all my wired sensors. I did have to replace the smoke detectors and the motion sensors were not supported anymore. We always bypassed the motions anyway due to pets.

AlarmGrid was extremely supportive during the install and did all the programming.
