About 3 weeks ago ALDI had a 2000w inverter generator in their weekly ad for $349.99. It appears to be a typical Chicom gen that is sold by many sources with their own badging and maybe slightly altered features such as the control panel. Generally they seem to be priced $500-600.

I looked around town at several ALDI stores and found that most stores had 6 or so in stock. Typically ALDI sources a shipload of these "non food" items and sells them on a one time basis until the inventory is depleted. After about 2 weeks they start reducing the price to move them out. Today I again checked 3 local stores, one is out, one has 1 left, the last store has 5 and the price is now $299.99. I will probably buy one after the weekend if for no other reason then I want another in stock in case the one that I buy is dead out of the box, hopefully they reduce the price again by then.

Obviously they are not anywhere near Honda or Yamaha quality but at $300 they can be considered a throwaway when they die. BTW, buy 2 and you can parallel them for double the output.

I was in Aldi's a couple weeks ago and over heard the manager and someone else talking about marking down the ladt ceramic cooker, they went half and it was gone the next week.

If you want ine talk to the manager and see they will make a better deal.

i'm very tempted to grab 1 at normal price, but been waiting for the price drop for a couple weeks now. Seems to be the same as other make names just re-branded. Will work for the 1-2 times a year I need portable power

I think I'm going to try to get the manager to drop down the price. Was also watching the Komodo, but couldn't pull the trigger when I've already got a fullsize barrel-style charcoal griller. Really want the Kamodo tho

I checked my local stores today, no change in inventory or price ($299.99), I can wait them out.

Mine is still sitting at $350 with 5 in stock. Asked the mgr if we'd see a reduction soon and she said within the next 2 weeks. i'm keeping an eye out

Interestingly, she said she had several returns of the generators. No idea if that's just people expecting more or issues with them or what

Some people just put gas in them and pull the rope without reading the instructions that stipulate they need to add oil before running them.

I'd they are taking returns on a used generator, that's a first to me. Any place I know, once you put gas in it, you own it, unless it is defective and they exchange it. HD only has a 30 day policy on gas products. Usually retailers are quite stringent on this category

Can anyone report if these are any good and how do they compare to Harbor Freights version? Actual noise level?

imo, the sub $200 price makes all non honda/yamaha/etc comparing futile.
a woman made a youtube video of this aldi which is shockingly good.
you cant go wrong when its sub $200... even if youre in the market for honda/yamaha you should buy the aldi too just as a beater...

is anyone here an aldi clearance pricing guru?
i picked up 2 for $199... i checked 4 of the 25ish stores in my locale and all 4 were $199
so my question for the guru is, are all of my local stores going to do price drops at the same-ish time or should i be out hunting for a better deal right now?

if i recall correctly i have found some aldi clearance stuff for diff prices at diff stores on the same day in the past. i recall negotiating with managers as well but this was years ago and the items were low dollar knick knacks whereas this is < in comparison > a big ticket item.

if you didnt know, you cant call your local aldi... gotta stop in to check prices.
return period is also questionable and uncertain... mine wont be cracked open until best deal status is achieved. guy at store said they would take it back with receipt as long as it wasnt open he said theres no real timeframe or deadline unopened and with receipt. he was hip to no refund if it had gas in it < i didnt ask he just said it >
also not sure if you can buy at one aldi and return at another.. no clue.
the longer this stays under the radar the better...

What’s the deal with the stores around me? Plenty of stock on hand but only 2 stores have reduced to $329.

Keep in mind if you have a grocery store credit card you may get another 5% cash back.

Can you post a pic of the clearance price? Maybe my local will match it

That's a great price. You figure it might save a couple hundred bucks worth of food in a power outage, so it might pay for itself on that one use. Also, it'd be handy to use corded tools away from outlets, and it'd help from having to use a lot of extension cords.

Our power was out for 5 days once, and we had to throw out $400 worth of food (meat in the freezer thawed out). We had some pricey steaks, chicken, sausages, hamburg, etc..

I'd drain out the factory oil and put synthetic in. For what little oil that thing uses, it'd only be like 50 cents of oil.

ive visited about half of my local-ish stores...
$199 at all so far... stores on the outskirts are generally sold out, city stores have stock
one chick tried to be helpful and check stock and price info at all other stores but she gave me unreliable info which was easily invalidated at the very next store. she said they had no stock but they did. she did say the price was chain-wide locally and as far as i can tell that bit of info correct. the only question now is how far outside the city must i go to get out of my local and into another...

The 3 stores closest to me where down to their last few units when I checked prices Sunday morning when they usually change (still $199.99). Last night one store had sold out so this morning I got the last one at store #2. Looking forward to trying it out.

Anyone know how well these things work? We have a camping trip in a couple weeks and the only site left was no electric. We can usually run 2 days off battery, but with the kids, we might be lucky to get 1 day. This might be just want we need to charge up the battery's and keep the phones charged.

It is the same Chinese generator that is sold under many different labels for $500-$600. A Honda it is not. For $200 it is hard to beat even if it only lasts a couple of years. For your stated use it should work just fine, just don't expect it to run your rooftop AC.

When my local store didn't have one I contacted ALDI customer service via email because after searching I could not find a phone number for them. They responded with a case number and a phone number to call for further assistance. So I got on the phone and gave them a call.

I called and talked to a rep (great customer service BTW) who called a few different stores within a 250 mile radius. There was one of the generators at a store somewhat close however it was $249.99. He checked another store quite a distance further but at this store the identical item was $169.99. (I have family who can pick it up for me)

Guess which one I'm buying? The only explanation he could give me for the price difference was that they are a different division. I don't understand so I guess that's just the way they do business. I could give out the phone number but it would not do any good because you have to have a case number which you can get by emailing them.
