Alemite tribute bench project

I'm positive if you set a genuine Alemite cabinet right next to your, yours is way better made. I don't know much about the real ones except they were made for use in Service Stations (I assume) so they were mass produced.

Granted, people seem to have put more care into stuff made in a factory in the old days but they still weren't making it for themselves! Yours shows true pride in the making. Probably a TON of work & hours but you could offer these commercially even at tens of thousands of dollars and I think there would be a market for them. Just beautiful.

That's SPECTACULAR!!!
The details are amazing... and I don't just mean the trim pieces: every corner is rounded and radiused. Amazing attention to detail.
How did you construct the trim pieces? Are they steel or aluminum? All the edges are beveled--how'd you do that?
For color choice... White reflects light very well, so I use a lot of white in my shop.
But I love the look of red, so most of the shop equipment I've built has been red.
And Rust-O-Leum flat black wears like iron, so all work surfaces are painted with it.
Front a graphic art standpoint, I think if you paint the cabinet one color, and the doors another color, it won't look right, for the same reason you don't two-tone a car by painting the body one color and the doors another.
I'd paint everything below the work bench red, and everything above it white, with a flat black work surface on the bench. Strike a line around the side cabinets and continue the two-tone, or you could also break up the two tone by painting the side cabinets all white, with a vertical line breaking the red and the white, between the back side of the bench, and the face of the side cabinet door.

Wow, thanks Brad! The trim pieces are aluminum and will be polished, bevels were hand filed. I appreciate your input on colors, you bring up good points, truth is I fell in love with a red/white Texaco Alemite and that's where inspiration is from, I'll try and find pic that started this

Glad Don mentioned you’re building your Alemite bench. So first 20 to post on this thread get a ....[emoji12]

Since you’re taking color ideas, I’m thinking white with the top 3 or so inches green. Stars red and aluminum trim shiny. Another think to consider is the wall it’s going on. Like if it’s going on this wall
how will the bench mesh with the wall colors and lighting in the area of the bench

Already nice, going to be sweet with paint.
