Being a 1.8 liter is no better an excuse than saying the handling of a car is bad because it's heavy. That's not an excuse, it's a problem.
You lost me then. That much power from a four banger isn't bad. Case in point: My wife's 1.8 turbo Passat is rated at 170hp stock (I have it chipped to Euro-spec so it's got more umph than stock). Heck, the Audi A3 has a turbo'd 2.0L that 'only' puts out 200hp. So what I'm saying is that 230+hp from that engine is dang
good for a
sub-two liter OEM engine!
I didn't realize how light it is. That's great, BUT at the end of the day that light weight will do nothing for top speed, and there are some of us who care about/utilize that sort of thing. Still though, now that I know how light it is, I'm excited, though I still wouldn't buy it.
Top speed is necessary for track guys, yes, but daily driver or nice weather cruiser [here in the USA], I find that a weak argument...acceleration becomes the more dominant factor then.
I don't know what the acceleration stats are but that light body will keep it nimble and if they get the suspension right then it's gonna eat up curves -- if you like Porsches then you know that's where the real drivers are.
BTW, I am a Porsche lover ever since middle school; my walls and ceiling in my bedroom were almost wall-papered in Porsche posters. Love German engineering! But that beautiful Alfa bodywork and on-paper power (don't know how usable it is) makes the car look pretty appealing.
