ALI explains on their website what you are getting if you go with an ALI-certified lift.

https://www.autolift.org/auto-lift-institute-vehicle-lift-certification-program/

As others have noted, the decision is based on how risk averse you are. Would you rather save a few hundred to a few thousand dollars and get a lift that has NOT been tested by a neutral third party or do you want to spend the money to get the tested lift (keeping in mind that you really don't know how good that testing is).

Personally, I go with the tested lift and pay the money. It makes me feel safer, whether or not I really am.

Here is a quick lookup to see what is ALI certified.

Still don't see Backyard Buddy or Advantage, at least in the 4-post listings. Advantage has been saying for a long time that they are getting ALI.

Feeling safer is a mental win for me.

Two different Advantage reps have given me that line in the last five years.

No reflection on my part regarding the quality of their lifts (which appears to be very high) but I think its BS.

I've looked at the Advantage lifts in person and like them, but it's off-putting that they seem to be lying about working on getting their lifts certified.

That doesn't really bother me. Salespeople are.....

I wonder if Bendpak's new GP boxed 4-post will get ALI?

Don't think there is anyone's boxed post is.

A Worth lift cost a far bit more than a ALI cert Atlas but if you seen the two side by side there is no comparison. The arm deflection of the Atlas at <75% rated load was much more than I would have expected. Not meaning to just pick on Atlas, I would expect similar results from any lift in that low end price range. It costs money to make quality products. Even if Mohawk out sourced 100% of their lifts to china and built exactly to current stands they would still cost more than the others.

I would go with nothing less than a 10K lift.
That 2004 1 ton diesel probably weights close to 9k.

My 2000 F250 long bed 7.3 weights 7400 + or -, when I lift it with my 10k Bendpak, man you can tell there is some weight there I'm quick to get under car stands under it.

since you said your only lifting the truck a few feet off the ground, something else you should check is at what height do the locks engage at? You got to have that truck setting on the locks, you would never want it to rest on the hydraulics. I think mine is at least a couple of feet off the ground before they snap in.
