Does Lista have an cabinets that can be wall mounted? I am looking for something like the size of an HS750 but with either normal cabinet doors or sliding doors. Thanks!!

Chicken12,

A HS750 can not be wall mounted. The weight bearing load is on the bottom. It's also a very deep (22-1/2") cabinet to wall mount.

Lista has a 15" deep wall mount cabinet in either 16" or 29" heights. They are available up to 60" in width and depending on model can hinged doors, sliding doors, or a retractable door.

I use them in many ways in my shop and office. I have them double stacked, made into a small paint bench and storage area, as overheads above my big bench, and in the office.

Hope this answers your question.

Regards,
Joe

Joe: Can you share the dimensions of the bearing rivet?

Anyone know how these rivet can be installed? peen hammer, press, spinning riveting, heat-induced pressing?

There are two bearing sizes. One at .8625" and the other at 1.025". The "rivet" is .275" in diameter and about .16 long. The bearings are press peened using this ancient machine. I'll take a pick of it the next time I am at Lista.

The "rivet" is pressed onto the bearing itself, so it is not removable from the bearing.

Let me know what other information you may need.

Joe

P.S. I have a very small stock of bearings. If you need just a few let me know.

This thread is all about LISTA cabinets, but it seems appropriate to bump as Motorhead may have more details on this?

Today I ordered several items for my VIDMAR cabinets. The customer service person mentioned that VIDMAR drawer slides will be discontinued after this year. I am assuming this would be the same type of transition as LISTA, from old to new.

I'll be calling back soon to order some replacements myself, now or never...

VIDMAR has new drawer slides; very much like the current LISTA ones are. The OLD design used a slider tray under the drawer which had steel roller bearings which very few ever cleaned and oiled. They would wear faster out without proper care. The NEW slides use a Polyoxymethylene (POM) bearing which are incredible: they work beautifully, never need oiling, and we have not seen a single one wear out in over 8 years. They are fantastic.

VIDMAR has switched over to these. Eventually, as with LITSA, the OLD designs will become obsolete.

By the way, we give Garage Journal members big discount on both LISTA and VIDMAR. We are Platinum Level Distributors.

Thank you for confirming; have you heard the deadline to order new old style slider trays? What's your price for a standard size drawer tray (30" wide 27 3/4" deep)?

Farm fresh lol
I am guessing that the pull handle extrusion would be the same with all vidmars and hence any of the end cap styles would fit. Is this correct?

Yes. The VIDMAR pulls are the same except for length for each model.

What a great thread! first time user here, but I have used Garage Journal several time for its expert advice.

I will be in need of a new lock tumbler, badge, and several drawer handle end caps. Most importantly is to see if you still have some old style bearings in stock anymore.

My box is the older suspension 56 x 28 x 40 inch roughly.
I've deducted its a DW900. I look forward to restoring it and really hope to find some bearings as I only need a few to make the box like new.

Thanks

I've had three vidmars out here in the desert. Each one I had to service all the bearings. I spray with break cleaner, use a pliers to get them turning from stuck or sticky, then hit with spray oil.

Is there a particular lube that's recommended?

On my 15 year old boxes that came from an auto dealership, I freed everything up with WD40 and then lubed with white lithium grease.

Your cabinet is a DW900 and we usually have locks and drawer end caps in stock. I also have a few of the older bearings in stock in my shop.

Either comment here or drop me a note at [email protected]

Thanks for the fast reply, I'll inspect my box to see how many bearings I'll need and I' contact you in the morning.

Yeah I've just grabbed a can of whatever and it's always worked fine.

Motorhead, is there an official answer on bearing lube?

This is a great thread! Thank you all for adding your content.
Pfew Lista benches tomorow, but Im starting to wonder more about their age and subsequent wear and tear after seeing your posts...

The fellow sent me some photos and I realized these cabinets don't really look like the Lista cabinets I'm familiar with, in that the handles seem to protrude past the cabinet frame. Is this just a very old style?
What should I be looking for or expect beside squeaky, rough moving drawers?
I am not interested in reconfiguring the drawers, I'm more interested in knowing if these are several times obsolete.

Thanks all,

Jarrod

I bought a vidmar cabinet with the old ball bearing wheels that roll in a steel track. It was super rough. Almost as if the bearings were shot. Turns out it was dried up grease and grit. Even just working some wd-40 in the bearings really freed them up. Then pressure washing and re-oiling helped more.

I've always used Mobil Vacuoline 1419. Sort of like chainsaw bar lube as in sticky, tackifiers, but an oil that is designed to stay with a machine tool and not get thrown out into the woods so to speak.

Not sure if its the best but i used engine assembly oil. Super tacky. Dark red oil similar in consistency to honey. In a clear bottle at the auto parts store for about $8 if i recall correctly.

By the way if you go to take the drawer tracks out... in mine they used Phillips head screws, around #10 in size probably. Not very rusty buy pretty stuck from years. I used a hammer-driven hand impact tool (Lisle makes one, i think Made in USA and reasonably priced). The tool was super handy in dissassembly.

They look like Lista cabinets; very old ones. The big thing to evaluate is the roller bearings. Most people never service them so they could be worn out, otherwise they need servicing. I expect the cabinets are OLD Style with metal roller bearings. If you want to know more, email me Joe@AmericanWorkspace or call 978-618-2800.

I'll drop a few pics of the Lista furnished Lab I just completed at work (unfortunately I need to take pics now that we're fully moved in).

We added a mezz structure, fully enclosed it, and turned it into a fully climate and ESD controlled space. The only part that really ***** are the ESD countertops. They will probably be replaced within the year (yes, they are that bad).

I don't know of an "official" position on bearing lube but we've been doing this for years and this is what we do. I mix 50/50 Acetone and ATF to wash/clean out the bearings, then I lube with 3-in-One oil and sometimes also with a light white lithium lube. The secret is clean and lubed.

On lubing the bearings, I agree with Joe and the others here.

Getting the dried crud out is the most important thing, and I’ve found the the tracks and the rail on the drawers also get crudded up and rusty. I’ve been wire brushing both and then coat with a dry lube to help keep from rusting.

I’ve been using Superlube grade 0, as it’s pretty thin and from what I found in my research the synthetic grease doesn’t dry out as easy.

I have a few cabs done with the oil also, it’s all about the same performance.

Hi Joe, hope you don’t mind me asking some questions. I’ve got 3 drawers (old style) from a damaged cabinet. They’re approximately 34” wide by 24” deep with drawer depth of 4.5-5”. I’ve got the trays and side pieces. Are the z channels or hat channels that the whole system hangs on available for purchase separately? I’ve got a shop made cart I’d like to install these in. The channels would make the fab part much easier.

Hi,

Lista does not have those anymore and my stock is one BUT I think I know where we can get some. I'll check Monday. Give me a call at 800-618-8028 or drop me an email [email protected] to check with me.

Thanks,
Joe
