ALL-PRO T200 torpedo heater starting issue

Guy I work with gave me this heater, hes not a mechanical guy and just bought another. Its a All-Pro 200T multi fuel torpedo heater. Upon first tryin to fire it up i drained the fuel and replace with K1. The glow plug warms up and the fan kicks on. The fan then cycles 3 times and after that it shuts down and the flame light blinks on the control.

I have taken the pump/manifold apart to verify the vanes were falling properly, they were.

Next pulled the nozzle out it was clean, hoses are clean. Fuel filter was replaced (not by me) with a standard lawn mower style screened filter. I checked with a pressure guage at start up ive got about 1.7psi of pressue. The manual states 6.2, no matter how i adjust it doesnt change. I tried blowing air through the line to see if i could get it to fire that would tell me my issue is in the pump, my air gun was hooked to a regulator set to blow 6-8 psi.

Dont these units use a siphon to pull fuel in? Looking in the manual i dont see any pump anywhere. Right now I cant figure out if the pump/motor is bad or the nozzle. Does it matter what kind of filter is installed?

Thanks for any help in advance.

it siphons from the nozzle but if you only got 1.7 psi it’s gonna be a pump problem, or the pressure hose has a crack. These things have to be darn near perfect. If I were you I would order a pump rotor, the vanes and a plastic cover with a new filter. I think you have to set the pump at .004” at top. FYI they are 2 widths of
Pump rotors. Measure yours first. Pressure has to be right on specs for the glow plug type to work. I like the spark plug type myself. It took me a while to learn how these things work, I ended up staying warm off sheer anger sometimes
Good luck man

Its been a while and I put this on the back burner for a minute.

Just pulled this back out went through the pump again. Veins were not in the correct orientation, fixed that verified im getting suction and had a small bottle of fuel to run from. It fired up finally. Put everything back together, filled the tank and it doesnt fire. Slid the top cover back to verify injector and it fires and runs. Start to slide the cover back into posistion it quits. Pull it back...fires.....put cover back dies. So close i feel just not sure of what to tey next. I have a new guage on order but it doesnt seem like pressure issue. More like a flame sensor error.

Any tip much appreciated.

Check your hoses for dry rot ,and maybe clean the fuel filter with brake cleaner, make sure nozzle is clean ,brake clean it as well, look at inside of tank to see if any sludge or rust from old fuel . I am replacing my fuel and vacuum lines as we speak ,I just started restoring my t200, was cutting out and blowing white smoke then shut down, also make sure the fuel filter rubber seal is nice and snug. Hope this helps.

I've had the run only with the cover off issue before and my issue was a pressure problem. Mud wasps had filled the relief valve on the back of the pump so it was full pressure. I managed to make it worse by trying an aftermarket nozzle but once I put the original nozzle back in and tuned the pressure (which is absolutely critical to keep the flame sensor happy) it starts right up now.

Hello, in reference to the T200 I've just restored mine, haven't put motor in yet because I'm questioning how I put the rotor vanes in, I put curved side facing out of rotor but there is a small space between center of rotor and the vane ,is the vane supposed to have that lil space at center of rotor or should the vane be flush,at outer edge of rotor, and in the center of rotor with no space, Any input is well appreciated, couldnt find any specs on this ,Thank you ,my1468
