About 40 years ago I met a bloke from just outside Perth. It sounded pretty "small town". Do they still rely on "road trains" for some items ?

Hi there,

Perth has grown a lot since then but it is still small compared to Sydney and Melbourne. However, coming off an iron ore mining boom, a lot of new development (Elizabeth Quay) especially around the Swan river which the city fronts. Population is just over 2 million with a lot of international retailers now opening up their stores here.

Road trains still exist and are still the lifeline of the outback area. Western Australia is a huge place so these trucks need to keep the pubs in those areas stocked
