You know, those plastic push pins, retainers, bushings, .... that seem to snap or go missing on even the simplest of jobs.

On my wife's '09 VUE, it was 4 "Plastic Retainers, radiator upper cover", that stripped out and were destroyed upon removal.

I have a fairly good supply of this type of plastic fastener, gathered from various jobs before I retired. But, not these or anything close that would work.

I found a website that seems to have a good variety of these types of fasteners, at least for GM vehicles.
http://www.clipsandfasteners.com/category_s/761.htm?searching=Y&sort=13&cat=761&show=450&page=1

As you will see, the site has a vast range of fasteners, as well as terminals, ie: Weatherpack terminals/connectors/seals, Molding Clips, Headlight Adjusting Screw & Nut Assembly, ....

Auveco has one of the most comprehensive lines of the car fasteners.
It is easier to look in their catalog, get a part number, and then google for the best price.

I have a bad habit of buying slightly abused cars and these are one of my most used items.

I always strip the Phillips head out on those but I've seen them on many cars, I buy mine at auto zone or go to junk yard and get a bunch.

napa has a huge selection of plastic fasteners, more than any I even knew existed. check them out if there is one close by. I know they carry the one you posted since I had to buy some once.

I also gather them up at junkyards when I go along with fuel line clips and the like.

Love clipsandfasteners.com . They've saved the day a few times.

Another tip that's helped me a few times is to just heck with a dealer. For interiors, sometimes you can get a "pack" or "kit" that includes all the various widgets, dammits and whatsits needed for one car's interior in the correct color.

For body, exterior or engine compartment fasteners, sometimes the correct fasteners are surprisingly cheap. And sometimes they're astonishingly expensive, but you never know until you check.

Also, look for any "cushions" and grommets you can find and consider replacing them as well -- it's amazing how much less things squeak and rattle when the fasteners work as designed and the various bits of foam and rubber are fresh.

I have come to consider these type fasteners as "one use only", that being on the assembly line. My Ford Focus is full of them especially around the front clip/bumper. Some of them may last through a couple of tightenings but rarely are they really holding things "tight".

Fortunately my son is in the body shop business so I can get replacements for free. The links in the posts above are all great resources.

I'll have to dig through that Auveco catalog when I get some time. Finding clips/fasteners for my 1992 Acura Integra is a nightmare. Unless the clips are shared with more common or newer cars in Honda's line everything has been all but discontinued for years now. I've bought some stuff from clipsandfasteners.com but they still don't have most of what I need. I guess if Auveco does carry them then I'd need to find a retailer since it looks like they pretty much just sell to body shops.

BMW added the XZN version of those this year.

J/K

I tend to use Auveco for reference as well.

I'd be glad to see an XZN version. :) Next to no chance of stripping the damn thing and I already have every size XZN from owning a VW.

Those litlte plastic fasteners are a good reason not to let dealers do nonrequired service work even if it's "free". The local VW dealership broke every plastic clip on the underside of my dash doing a cabin air filter replacement. I was pissed because it shows a complete lack of care for the job at hand. I've since replaced that filter probably 4 or 5 times and never broken any of the clips.

I hardly ever ruin that style of fastener. Just dig under the Phillips head and pop it up a little. Then the whole fastener will come out. To reinstall just push the Phillips head back down. I've had no luck unscrewing one of those.

Just in case you haven't found a substitute yet, the OEM part number for that fastener should be #94530397. Price seems to be vary from $3.00-$5.00 for a quantity of ten. A little cross-referencing shows the same fastener was used on the Chevrolet Aveo (and several models that weren't sold here - Captiva, Epica, Optra). :D

I'm still not over my shock of seeing these kind of fasteners used so much on cars. That should date me.
