It was really more about your "USA tools are overrated" comment. If you as a consumer want to be able to have money to spend, then you might want to at least consider buying domestic.

For what it's worth headlines today were that recently there has been a influx of Chinese home buyers paying all cash for property here. Good thing? Yes, in some regard. Bad thing? Hell yeah, they are likely only able to do that because we are outsourcing so much.

Don't want to get political. This is more about comparing a useable USA tool and a useable imported tool. They still likely get the job done. But at what cost and to who? Initially the consumer. Long term, the country.

Bingo. This is the "me" generation and most U.S. consumers don't follow world events or look that far down the road. As long as the free flashlight coupons and weekend parking lot sales at Chong's Tool Emporium continue then all is good...for now.

Pontiac (gasp, and I like and own them) being one of them. The EPA banged them over the head and they fixed it in short order. Problem easily solved (back then).

Most of my stuff is US made but I have Asian stuff from cheap Chinese to Sunnex. I have Mitutoyo micrometers too. I have no European tools that I know off. In my mind this is how I see it, I'll support a good business. If it's a reasonably priced US tool then I'd get it. If it's an insanely cheap Taiwan tool then I'll get it. I don't want tools that screw me over by breaking easy or cost a fortune. I do want to support US jobs but not if I'm getting screwed over in the process. I want to be the one getting benefitted by buying the product. I would buy high end foreign tools when it comes time to buy some stuff but I'm having a heck of time finding prices that aren't in euros with some stuff.

You have to use tools to prove anything. Foreign and domestic all break. But don't categorize based on your own thoughts.

Your personal experience hardly makes you an expert, it is one guy's opinion and you need to see that. Now if you're a guy that drinks the Koolaide, I understand that...but the rest of us don't drink it.

I'm not trying to argue with you, but for you to say, "I'm a Pro, so I know better" is complete nonsense. You put your pants on one leg at a time, just like the rest of us.

When you prove it with test data, that would be a different story. So when will you be providing that to the group?

I almost always put my pants on two legs at a time. I sit down and put both feet and legs through. Then I stand up and pull the pants up. Both at the same time. Shorts on the other hand I put on one leg at a time.

Think trucks..buses.. 1990s with EPA and the OEMs coming to a consent decree....

I consider myself as patriotic as anyone. Served 4 years active over 16 in the reserves but I'll be damned if I am for example going to pay 20.00 plus dollars for a screw driver that is considered a prestige brand or image brand when I can buy a German made screwdriver of at least equal to or imho a better quality for 8 to 10.00 a piece. Same with pliers if a person is so naive not to at least try NWS or Knipex because they are not American made you are leading a sheltered life. My goal is to assemble the absolute best set of tools possible to pass on. Quality is what my objective irregardless of coo. If you think it makes you a better American to own only American tools good for you, hope it gives you a warm and fuzzy, the National Anthem does it for me. I am not so naive to think this country is the pinnacle of mfg for everything made. You better clean all of the other non USA product out of your house if is that important for you to have only American made products, don't expect you to own much. By the way no matter how good chit is made if you wrench long enough tools will break,at least working on farm machinery.

Sounds like you just enjoy German stuff when it comes to tools.

This post is wildly ironic on all accounts, but we won't even go there.

I will say this though. The only reason that German screwdriver or pliers you refer to is half price is because of the exchange rate. The same exchange rate you fought to protect for 20 years (for which we thank you). The value of the dollar is another fight for another thread, but the "cost" isn't only those $10.

I buy for value, which is a ratio of price to quality. I don't need these for my day job, so they don't make me money though. They just help me save money or provide enjoyment doing other things.

I only buy Chinese tools or old tools from El Salvador. None of that overpriced, rust bucket American **** for me, thank you so very much.

I'm not picky. I have mostly USA made stuff. But I also have a ton of good quality Tiawan tools as well. My tools make my paycheck so I don't like to skimp on quality for price. But at the same time I'm young. 23 Married with a 2 year old and another baby on the way. So I try to not carry a balance on the tool trucks so I will save money where I can. Most of my sockets are Sunex or GP with the commonly used or broken stuff being better brands.

I abuse some of the cheaper stuff everyday and never wonder if it's going to fail on me. Then I also prefer German pliers and screwdrivers. So the cultures in my toolbox are very diverse. Just like the US, so therefore my toolbox and tool collection is very much USA
