My neighbor gave me this a while back. He said it was stolen from the coal mines and are some of the best sets you can find. Opinions?

Allen tools (originators of the Allen hex wrenches) are good quality. Owned by Danaher, I wouldn't be surprised if the brand eventually disappears.
They're definitely worth keeping.

Assuming your talking about the Handle? Because im sure the Guts are interchangable with the Quick Release Craftsman brands.

The guts are interchangable.I've taken the guts from my Allen, NAPA and Craftsman ratchets and interchaged them all.

The sockets and good and the ratchet is ok. I had the KD version of that ratchet but didn't care for it so I gave it to my neighbor. I'd keep it in the car or truck.

They're decent-quality Danaher, from before the Apex tools period. Allen and K-D were two of Danaher's mid-level brands. Good stuff, but often not very flashy. Along the lines of the USA-made Craftsman wrenches/sockets.

Some Allen branded tools are still USA made, but K-D stuff is now pretty much all imported under the Gearwrench brand.

I'm no OSHA inspector, but wouldn't something from a coal mine be non-sparking? Those look like every other Cr-V toolset I've seen.

Not to say that they're not good tools. I just doubt that they came from a working coal mine.

Hello first post here! A couple years ago I was looking at some Allen socket sets in a store, I was looking at a packaged set of 1/2 drive shallows and the 9/16 was a Craftsman! I assumed that they must be madi in the same factory.

+1, albeit I thought Allen was on Danaher's lowest tier, of acceptable industrial work place tools.

I actually have, what appears to be the same set, although SAE and in a plastic storage container. They're quite acceptable, worth keeping, albeit the ratchet is is a bit sub-par IME. Granted, it shouldn't be compared with premium ratchets, at it's price point.
