Ok guys, I have a cabinet I picked up used. The cabinet works great(its a pressure cabinet), but I seem to be having an issue witht he dust collector or something. The cabinet has 2 dust collectors on it. The one on the left seems to be sucking up all my media and spitting it all over my shop. I am using glass bead from harbor freight(is this the problem?) I have the cabinet sealed up very well, but for some reason my collector on the left is pulling my media out of the air? or maybe I have my pressure set too high for blasting? im at 90 PSI any input is welcome

after doing a little more digging, it seems my dust collectors are actually reclaimers also. Guess I need to figure out why its spitting the media out into my shop and the dust.

Ok so I’m gonna have to stop using this cabinet till I figure out the dust collector problem. The 2 collectors on the cabinet do a great job keeping the cabinet clear so I can see, but they are useless to me if they are gonna pull all the dust out and pump it all over my shop. This was after about 2 hours of blasting.

You better not be breathing that air……

Silicosis is not something to mess around with.

Go and Re-read the above and read about silicosis.

You have ONE set of lungs and getting a transplant is NOT easy.

Agreed but the OP is using glass beads. No silica in them. Irregardless breathing any sort of media is not healthy.

Generally there
Unless you have fastidious supply chain auditing and oversight, you have no idea what is in those “glass” beads the supply house sold you.
If it's glass, it does not contain free silica. Free silica is what will lead to silicosis. Silica in glass beads, crushed glass etc. is what is called amorphous, meaning it cannot stick or bond to lung tissue unlike free silica which can/will.

Buy from a reputable source. I use crushed glass all the time in media blasting. Glass beads do not contain free silica either. Coal slag is another silica free media.

You missed my point.

A lot of supply houses buy from third parties and have no idea what they are actually selling.

No I didn't.:) If you have used the types of materials I mentioned then you know that raw materials are pretty hard to fake. Granted cheap HF glass beads might not perform the same as high quality ones but they are still glass. Same with coal slag and crushed glass as well. With the exception of glass beads many of these products have only one or two suppliers/manufacturers in the US and come from the US. Raw materials are raw materials and if you've used a certain material in the past then you will be able to recognize if something is off.

But like I said above. buy from a reputable source/brand. Always wear respiratory protection if doing any blasting outside of a cabinet.
