Curious if anyone has ever used the Allure vinyl flooring that Home Depot sells? It is a "floating floor" that I am considering putting over an old vinyl sheet floor in a 6' x 8' utility room coming into the house from the garage to clean up a house that we are selling. Most feedback on the net seems OK with it and of course there are those that had issues with it. If it were a house that I was keeping I would be more creative but not in this case. Just thought I would throw it out there for feedback. Thanks in advance.

I have used it with good results. Its held up to lots of dog traffic and was ideal for my old house with uneven floors since it is flexible. It does have a odor to it for a while and you need to let it acclimate to your house before installing it. For the money and ease of install its tough to beat. Score and snap for perpendicular cuts, and use a big pair of snips for everything else.

I've got the faux wood grain in my kitchen. It was inexpensive and has held up well over the past year, again to heavy dog traffic, etc. Make sure to leave adequate clearance from the wall. I've got a piece that wants to pooch out durning the summer when the house expands (put it down on a cold arsed night in January, thought I'd left enough gap...)

It's not hardwood, it's not tile, it's not fancy marble, but it's definitely worth it for the money.

We just had 18 cartons delivered to be installed by flooring contractors who do work for Home Depot. The manufacturer of the product says it can be installed over existing floors but HD people insisted the old floor be removed and a 6 mil vapor barrier be installed under it or they would not honor the 25yr warranty. The existing floor is sheet vinyl, perimeter glued on a slab floor and it's in perfect condition, no moisture or buckling. I would think the existing floor would be a good vapor barrier. It doesn't make sense to me other than they make an extra $600 to take up the old floor. I have installed this flooring myself in 2 mobile home bathrooms in FL over existing flooring and so far no problems at all. This flooring is only sold by HD by the way. I guess I will find out soon how this will work out

We have close to 1000 sq ft of it installed ,some in a bedroom/hallway upstairs but the majority is living room, hall, dining room .Heavy traffic, dogs cats kids.
It has held up very well and a quick sweep followed by a steam mop and it looks like new.
It cost less than having the hardwood ,that it is laid over, refinished and although it doesn't look quite like hardwood it is more forgiving and durable.

You are correct. I would not let them do that. Is this floor a slab? I would get the floor and contact a real pro installer, not some Home Depot flunky.

We've had it in our utility/mud/laundry room and bathrooms for the last 5 years and it's held up perfectly. In fact it's worked so well that I'm considering using their garage version for the... garage!

And I installed over existing vinyl sheet flooring. I wouldn't trust installers that said the existing flooring needs to come up. After all, the whole point behind this flooring is to float over existing floors.

Great product at good price. I ended up using it as we have an 1850's house with rolling un-level floors and very old linoleum that I was not interested in trying to remove.
It conforms easily and lays down to floor irregularity's. Strange plastic smell for a day or two and very slippery but both go away. Cleans up easy.

Heavy traffic, people and dogs. We aren't ones to take off our shoes in the house and no issues as of yet. Three plus years.

I would try it in a garage. The parking kind, not a working on.

I finished my basement last year with 1000sq/ft of it. I wanted something resistant to moisture and to scratching from my 100 lb dog playing around on it. It worked great. Layed directly on concrete with no issue. Very easy to install, took me a couple of days by myself.

Every visitor that saw it could not believe it was vinyl. One of the coolest home improvement products I've used.

I put the Allure Ultra in my entry way a few months ago. So far I like it.

I used the 1x3 ft Allure planks that look like slate tile in a laundry/mud room. I think the style is Ashlar. I went right over the top of 23 year old orginal vinyl that was discolored, gouged & really couldn't be cleaned up due to the dirt ground into it. The Allure was really easy to install & looks nice. Had it about 8 months & no sign of wear & tear even with two large dogs & all kinds of grit coming in from the garage over a MN winter. Because I got the tile look, I was also able to seal the fine seams in the "grout lines" if they showed with a gray color matched Polyblend caulk. Made the seams pretty much disappear. Worst part of the project was undercutting the door jams. Would definately use again.

I used the comparable lowes brand over vinyl in the bathrooms and hallway at our winter home in Florida. It was so easy to put down, and held up so well I wished I used instead of the ceramic tile we had installed in the kitchen.
