It's asphalt. I used some cheap $1 concrete pavers to border some flower beds and they worked out nice. I was planning on Belgian block but I want to use the big ones and they're $3-5 ea. I was going to snap a chalk line, make a nice even line to get rid of the edge irregularities with a wet saw, under cut that edge slightly on an angle a little bit with a chisel, use a hoe to scrape out a suitable gutter in the dirt, fill with cement and instal blocks, use a mason line to level, and find some type of thin metal bars to use as rebar - mush into the mortar behind the blocks, back fill dirt on the one side and use polymeric sand to fill in any tiny cracks/spaces in b/w the block and driveway.

Just like this DIY from this old house:

For 3-5 bucks a block you could do cobblestones and I'd think they would look better and hold up better. Just my preference though. Your plan sounds good. If you plow your driveway make sure whatever stone you use is just below the pavement or you'll be redoing it
