I mixed my "anti-slip" into the clear coat and be sure to stir / mix it often. Did you look at or consider using Shark Grip? I did a a bit of research on this site and others and in the end decided that the Shark Grip product provided the best compromise between anti-slip properties, feel, and cleanabilty. You can buy it a Lowes or Sherwin Williams (I think SW actually has samples so you can see / feel what it is like). I used about 1/2 the suggested amount and really like the way it turned out.
It would depend on whos clear coat you are using. We do NOT recommend mixing the aluminum oxide in the clear, our coating is thick enough that it will sink and not give you the desired texture.
How about a tabular alumina?

We use aluminum oxide in our urethane top coat over epoxy. Depending on the loading it will go from a semi gloss to a matte finish. The advantage of mixing this into the urethane and applying (very thin application by the way) you get extremely good scratch resistance.
I lightly placed aluminum oxide on top of a freshly applied epoxy surface and it works well for slip resistance. The problem is it is heavy and tends to sink into the epoxy and get covered up. So you have to time it correctly. Of course the real thin applications you guys are applying your epoxy it doesn't have far to sink. Mixing it into the epoxy I feel as others have stated will cause you problems. You don't need to be troweling your epoxy on.
The "shark grip" (there are several manufactures calling it different names) is basically ground up milk jugs into a fine powder. It is very light and will stay suspended better. It doesn't add to the abrasion resistance though. An aliphatic urethane with a partial loading of the aluminum oxide placed on top of your epoxy will give many added years to your surface wear. The gloss is a slightly muted but, give your epoxy a few months and that glossy shine is gone anyway. Garage settings would benefit with this topical. More chemical resistant than epoxy, costs no where near your poly(this) poly(that) products as a protective top coating. Ask your supplier if they carry this product and why they don't push it.

We used aluminum oxide on top of the clear coat Epoxy-Coat and it provides a very good slip resistant surface. So good I got EC rash on my elbows and knees when I painted my stem wall.

Our product, soft skid, is tabular alumina. It will sink after a while. Frankly, Ottawa sand back rolled in to fresh urethane works well too.
