aluminum threads galling

I have a puller for moen tap cartridges, all aluminum. noticed the threads (3/4-16) are starting to gall . always used it dry, what should I lubricate the threads with ?

since you're doing plumbing...pipe dope makes an excellent thread lubricant

If the lubricant might come into contact with the water, you might look for a food grade grease -- McMaster-Carr has several.

Or it could be as simple as a few drops of vegetable oil.

what about silicone grease used for o-rings?

Just about anything slippery should work.

solder seal makes heat pruf grease, specifically for plumbing. i use it on moen cartridges.
