AM Co No44 vise

I just dug out this old AM Co 44 vise. I think it was my grandfathers. Am I correct that it is an Athol Machine/Starrett. Any idea how old this would be? I am also curious about the swiveling jaw on the back, is it to be removed and replaced with other jaws? or just to swivel for an odd shape? It is the first vise I have seen with a "quick" opening feature, lift and pull it out.

Deja Vu...it's raining vintage Athol swivel jaw vises lately.

It's a beautiful example of a (1890's - early 1900's) Athol Simpson No. 44 vise. The swivel jaw is meant to be used as a fixed jaw with the pin installed and a swivel jaw with the pin removed. The information below is from a 1901 Athol Machine Co. catalog.

Just dug it up, huh? Very rare and collectible.

We had it in the basement growing up. My dad gave it to me when I bought my first house, I had it set up for a year or two. It has been sitting on shelf under the bench for a few years now since I moved. I just kind dug it out from under a bunch of junk. I think it is cool, I have never seen another like it, and had no idea it was that old, Thanks
