Am I Really This Old? Is Epoxy Slippery?

New house build on a slab. First we considered epoxy, either pro or DIY. Lots of friends did this, love it, $400 from HD or pro, $3200.

Then, the idea of garage tiles. I like the idea and the look.

Hubby is concerned about oil spills seeping through the edge cracks. None of our cars seep oil, but still. :)

My friend said ALL of her grandkids have slipped and fallen on her pro epoxy and she has to walk so carefully when her car brings in rain.

Since I'm nursing a sprained ankle, from a stupid fall, this got my attention.

So what say you? Which is most sure-footed? (and garage tiles....edge seepage?) Thank you!!

Epoxy is a little slippery, and slipperier than ice when wet.
It's recommended to top coat it in something less slippery like polyurethane, or at least use a wax.

I am having the same concern. My neighbor had a pro epoxy job done with non skid grit in the epoxy. He has a walk out patio area associated with the garage. In the summer, when the garage floor is cool and the outdoor weather is humid, condensation forms on the floor. It is very very slippery.

Our garage had a clear matte finish when we bought the house. No idea what it is or how old. We have been here 13 yrs, and whenever it rains we have to be careful walking in the garage, the floor can still be quite slippery.

All of our epoxy and polyurea kits include a non skid additive, and we sell tens of thousands per year with no slippery complaints. If you have great concern we can adjust the non skid particle size to increase it and therefore increase traction, but that's a double edged sword since the more aggressive you make the texture, the harder it is to keep clean.

Feel free to contact us at below for guidance or to recommend the proper kit with the proper nonskid for your needs.

Agree with ArmorPoxy. Adding anti-slip media into the final coat makes a night and day difference.
