My goal here is to be about 5 sets deep, at least on all the commonly used sizes (for my stuff). I pick up random US made wrenches for a buck or 2 when I come across them. SK, C-man USA only, Armstrong, Bonney, Proto, etc.

I have 2 workbenches in the garage, which are divided by a table motorcycle lift (another bench in itself), and I also have a workstation outside for tearing down and assembling vises. With a total of 4 work benches, my stuff just ends up everywhere.

So I figure I'll just have a kick-*** rack of wrenches up on the wall. If I'm not sure on a size for a couple fasteners, I can grab 2 of several sizes, forget where I put them all and still have more in reserve. The garage is too crowded to even get into my toolboxes half the time. Total cost shouldn't exceed $120 by the time I'm done.

Hell yeah! Actually, I live in a shared house, so I need to keep every inch of the garage occupied. If I leave any space open someone will put something there. I just slowly took the garage over, I don't have it in the lease. It is what it is...

Just you wait first it is "Man I need extra sets of wrenches"; then later "Man wish I had extra socket trays, then it's "Man I need extra of the same screwdriver' , then it is, "Man I need all the extra hammers" followed by...:lol_hitti

Never ending tool story!

Oh I better not post any pictures of my shop or you guys are sure to give me sh*t about my 25 adjustable wrenches or random size wrenches hanging all over the shop. I'm lazy, so I don't want to have to walk too far to get a wrench. :D

My worry with living in a " shared house" would be keeping track of those tools. Maybe a big dog?

I have my wrenches set up like that...I'm 4 to 6 deep on most sizes. All yard sales and tool lots. When I get another truck or trailer, I grab a wrench ring and grab one of each size and instantly have a complete set. It's like a little store. lol

Defiantly not the only one. I have at least five sets of SAE and Metric wrenches but not all in the same spot have them in the garage, truck in a wrench and socket kit, in my tool bag, and two or three sets in the basement shop.

Some times you need two same size wrenches to do a job.

I try to be at least 3 deep @ work and in the garage of everything that I use a lot and both of my trucks have complete tool sets in them. Tools are like guns. You can never have too many and there is always room for more. Some may call it an obsession, they would probably be right but being the go to guy for that oddball widget tool is just a good feeling.

I take it you just leave them set for a pre determined size? You know, you can adjust them more than once. 12sae and 12 metric right. :lol_hitti

Dave runs a small sears store in his garage. :lol_hitti  I don't see any lobster claw though. I wouldn't mind shopping at your place.

Galoots, those woodworkers who collect/hoard handtools, call this obsession the "slippery slope".

Who knows?
We did it in Iraq, and I brought the habit back with me to my shop.

Be careful, I now have hundreds of wrenches that I doubt I'll ever need or use. Do I regret buying them for pennies on the dollar? Not a single one!!!!!!!

Tools get mixed up and misplaced in drawers no matter what I try so I like hanging them up.

That's just SOME of his boxes :lol_hitti Dave is a magnet for cheap tool boxes. And apparently the items to fill them with.

Dave I hope you don't mind me posting this,

Exhibit A:
http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=204880&page=2

haha...Post away my friend. I don't mind one bit. I put it on here to share as so many others have done, which helped me get to where I am with the shop.

Yea, Falcon, I had them in drawers before, but it seems everytime we work on a vehicle I end up walking more than a handful out, (or put on the cart), so I ended up hanging them, and I like it better. I see them front and center and can grab stubbys or XLs if needed without sliding out of racks in a drawer....ambitiously lazy I think they call it. lol.

And with having 4/5/6 of each, drawers become a rats nest of wrenches. If I had a drawer that was 6 or 8 foot long and 30" deep, I may be swayed. But I've yet to find that deal. :lol_hitti:thumbup::beer:
