Yep only a hundred times now :bounce: It's a cool idea but it is not really worth it with the price tag and in my opinion it will engurage people to be less cautious with tool's as they think they won't get hurt (really true in a highschool enviroment) :shocking:

I have to disagree about it not being worth it. How much are your fingers worth to you?
I have been working with a table saw for 20 years and never had an accident, however, if I had to purchase a new saw I would definately go that route!

I have to admit that I'm split on this one. As Tom says, what price do you put on body parts? But as the Intimidator says, I see more and more people doing more stupid stuff because something is supposedly "perfectly safe"...

I've been using power tools since a very early age and was taught a deep respect for them by my father and grandfather. Yes, there have been a few stupid moments over the decades and I'm lucky they didn't cause any lasting damage. At those moments something like the SawStop could have been worth the added insurance. But even those incidents served to teach me well about paying attention to what I was doing, whether I was fatigued, or whether I was doing something just plain stupid.

Sort of like the statistics for driving that say that the safer someone feels in a car the more likely they are to get into minor accidents. The threat of injury can be an excellent way to keep you alert!

Used to be the braking mechanism on that saw had to be replaced once it had been activated. Now I think you can activate it something like 3-5 before replacing. The brake is definetly not cheap!

I don't buy into the arguement that the safety mechanism will encourage someone to be less safe.

Do airbags in your car cause you to drive like an idiot? Of course not.

I saw a demo of the saw at a local tool supplier. Only one word comes to mind ..... Amazing.

AFAIK, the brake ($60) and the saw blade have to be replaced if activated.

I almost bought a SawStop but already have a Jet cabinet saw I don't get to use enough.

My friend has used saws for 40 years without an accident, until recently he almost cut a finger off and still does not have full use of his hand. it seems like cheep insurance to me.

Actually there is "too expensive" when it comes to safety. If safety had no price limit, we would have a nationwide speed limit of 20 mph, outlaw left turns and ban driving in the rain. People weigh cost against anticipated physical risk all the time.

Last article I read stated that once activated, a new brake and blade is ~$150. That's really not too bad compared to the loss of limbs and cost of a doctor visit. Any idea what the initial extra cost is?

Also, I work in a high school and I can guarantee you that a device like this would result in some kids being way less careful. Our vocational classes are full of thugs and hoodlums that would jump at the chance to screw up a device like this.

If I had the need for a tool like that I would definitely buy that one. With kids around, it would be well worth it in my opinion.

I know I can't put a price on my appendages.
