While not automotive in nature, as someone who apprectiates classic bikes and bike tools I have always lusted over one of these tool sets....

Way out of my price range :-( Ironically a lot of these tools are outdated, and you wouldn't use most of them on a modern bike.

But dam.... what a beutiful tool kit. I have always been tempted to put a modern set like this together and have someone make me a fine wood case for it. I wouldn't be able to get a blow molded insert, but some good foam might work.

Has anyone seen any other tool sets/collection this intricate out there?

Always looking for ideas, and amazed whats out there.....

It's sometimes joked in cycling circles that a bike equipped with Shimano is setup with "Fishing gear". While a campy equipped bike is a work of art. That was a Campy tool kit, they stopped being a force in the bike tool world some time ago. But the stuff they made was first class. Shimano is all about function, Campy is the next step up.

That said most of the tools in that case don't get a lot of use anymore. Sealed cartridge bearings, integrated headsets, and factory wheels have made most bike work more about swapping parts than overhaul and maintainance. That set is more of a collectors set than something that would have much use anymore.

I love stuff like that too, and am a few days away from posting my own pics of the first drawer of what will hopefully become many of the drawers in my roller chest.

You could easily put something like that together if you wanted, on most any kind of budget, tools excluded. You could start with a briefcase from a thrift store and re-cover it with vinyl, cloth, leather. Or one of the many plastic chests available. Or make a wooden one like the bike kit, which could be a pretty simple project. You could get fancy and have a name or logo silkscreened onto satin like the Campy kit or wood burned or embroidered...lots of possibilities at every stage.

Some time ago, there was a Craftsman 109 6"' metal lathe on eBay that was built into a carrying case.

The lathe was attached to a plate that could be reversed so the case formed a base for it. The motor was mounted inside the case, and there were compartments for all the tooling.

It was pretty neat. "Have lathe, will travel."
