I feel stupid, I always thought the "K" was silent.
Yep, always thought it was pronounced nipex
Ditto, and I'm not changing.
so who knows.
I feel stupid, I always thought the "K" was silent.

I posted about the pronunciation awhile back. I finally went to my German brother-in-law to hear it from the horse's mouth.
But then I enjoyed the fact that there is at least one easy word for us, that is tough for Germans.`
I kanow what you mean. Since I have said it that way for so long, it makes my tongue feel fuzzy if I say it the "correct" way.

I think we ought to just start referring to them as "damn good pliers" in conversation. Can't mispronounce that!
I took German for a couple of years in high school. They taught us every letter makes a sound in every word. The word "name" is spelled the same in German and means the same thing, but in German it's two syllables. So I've always pronounced it sort of correctly, since I saw it written before I heard anybody say it.
Lol squiddle, square-L etc. the dood with the straw hat said it best
Is a "W" always a "V" sound? Is Wera pronounced like "Veerah"? Is Wiha pronounced like "Vee-Ha"? If so, how is volkswagen pronounced? with two "v" sounds?
I'm no expert with my 2 years of high school German, but yes W is pronounced the way V sounds in English. And the V is pronounced like F in English. Folkswagen.
ITYM "Folksvagen."
Yeah well the German word for "squirrel" is no easier for us native English speakers... "Eichhoernchen" (yes, really...)
