If you do not own a tablet and wonder if you is right for you, but you don't want to spend a lot, you have to take a good look at the Fire HD 8 ($49.99) and the Fire HD 10 ($99.99). These things are AMAZING at that price.

The screens are true HD and very bright. They do not have GPS or capability to using a cell phone data plan. They do have WiFi and Bluetooth. Battery life is good to excellent.

Amazon wants you to use their store exclusively, but you can "side load" the Google Android Store app and get pretty much anything you want there.

I'm using a fire tablet now. Just a heads up. They are very slow and unresponsive if you are thinking of doing anything except reading books with them. It often takes 30 seconds to a minute to load a page and you can tap on links until you are ready to scream.

You can control what they watch and set the amount of time they can watch too.

I have the Fire and it is not slow to load. I like it but ergonomics is not the best. The smooth surfaces on all sides makes it easy to slip from your hand onto the floor. The power button is not easy to select because it is on the back surface.

i bought a fire 7 whatever when they were on sale for 35$.

personally, i think they should have given it to me. it is mostly useful for accessing amazon and their services. other uses seem like an afterthought.

HD 8, 6th generation. Got it last Christmas. It's been like this from the beginning. I've tried various things to try to speed it up, like closing down all the background junk. It's still slow. I was thinking of just removing all the Amazon garbage and letting it run a true Android system

But what model are you using?

We own two Fire tablets. Mine is older and is getting a little slow. My wife’s is newer and is fine.

Sounds like you may need to do some maintenance. I recently found some articles on speeding them up. I deleted some stuff and now mine’s running better.

If it takes a minute to load a page, then something is wrong.

I love Android phones and have to agree about the tablets. The fire products are great, but it's a customized version of Android that has some features locked out. My Samsung tab a (I think) is less customized Android but the screen is terrible. I've used other people's iPads and they just plain worked, no nonsense.

But, if you want a price point tablet a fire for $99 is a decent device.

The best and worst decision Google made was letting manufacturers customize the OS.

if there is one thing that apple does better then everyone it is the ipad. no one can come close to that and im not even an apple fan. but when it comes to tablets. they are the BEST hands down.

How is this tv? Does anyone own one? I'm not big into tv's so not sure if this is a good buy or not.
