First, I'll just tell you how I search for deals. This is easiest to do on the desktop site. The mobile site and the app don't give you as many options.
I usually search by a brand name or a category such as "pliers". Click the "tools and home improvement" category, then click the "70% off" filter. You can try the 50% filter, but you'll get a lot more garbage, such as sellers that have low prices but high shipping costs. You must have a category selected before you can apply filters.
Here's the types of deals:
"2 Left" deals:
If you noticed in the Warehouse Deals threads, I posted a lot of deals with "2 left". After someone buys 1, or both, the price will jump back up. Amazon frequently gives good discounts when there are 2 left of an item. Why? I don't know.
I encourage you to buy both if you can. Sell the other, give it to a friend/family, or help out another GJ member.
"Amazon Warehouse Deals":
There's a few ways to find these. Not all of them are smoking deals, which is why I use the 70% filter as stated above. Here's how to find them:
1. In any search results, on the left hand side under "sellers", click "see more". From there, you might have to click "A", then click "Amazon Warehouse Deals". This is the method I use most.
2. From the home page, click "Today's Deals", then up near the top, click "Open Box & Used". From there, you'll have to select a department to narrow your results.
You'll also notice on the left where it says "Last Chance" under "Shop Our Deals". "Last Chance" is supposed to be the final markdown before the price jumps back up on Warehouse deals. I usually don't find much of interest in the "Last Chance" listings.
"Markdown Center":
On the homepage, hold the mouse over "Shop By Department", then "Home, Garden & Tools", then click "Power and Hand Tools". Not all of these are smoking deals either, so I click the 70% off filter on the left.
From there, you're better off clicking either "Hand Tools" or "Power Tools" on the left under "Show Results For". The results will be long, so you may want to filter even more.
"Deal of the Day":
On the home page, click "Today's Deals". You should see the Deals of the Day. I usually click "DIY and Tools" on the left under Department.
HOW DO YOU KNOW IF IT'S REALLY A DEAL?
For starters, NEVER TRUST THE "LIST" PRICE ON AMAZON. Here's how you can find out if it's really a deal:
1. Compare it to other sellers on Amazon. On the product page, click "all sellers". If there are a lot of sellers, you'll be able to make a better determination.
2. Check with 3 camels. On the product page, copy the entire URL of the page. Open a new window/tab, and go to www.camelcamelcamel.com. On 3 camels, paste the copied URL into the search box. You should see a chart that shows the price history. If it says "not enough data", then try the next step.
3. Check with Google Shopping. Go to Google and click Shopping. Search for the brand and model number. It should show the prices that stores are selling at.
4. Compare with a known seller. If you're trying to compare a Milwaukee price, check with HomeDepot.com. If you're comparing a Williams tool price, check with ToolsDelivered.com.
That's about all I can think of right now. I may have missed some stuff. Feel free to add, but like I said at the beginning, don't post deals in this thread.
