Amazon has $75 off if you buy $300 worth of select Bosch tools, which if you look at the list its pretty much everything. You can get the GET65-60N RO Sander, one of the best on the market, for the cheapest price ever. Group some other tools together for great deals.

I’ve got the prior version of the 6” model and it’s great. Comparable with a Festool Rotex at a much lower price.

I wonder if flippers lurk here sniping?
Sadly "Flippers" lurk everywhere because that is how they make a living. I remember when Duker would post his deals on Saturday mornings and the deals would be gone almost instantly and the "well known GJ peeps" would grab about 50% of the deals.

I knew one guy who was a disabled Viet Nam Vet (in a wheel chair) who lurked all the "deal sites" and once the goods were delivered he would post them on Flea Bay.…… I went past his house one day and there roughly 30 boxes on his front porch.

BTW! He is now gone but not forgotten.

TRUE! I gave the guy a "pass" because of his sad situation but when he was able to get around with the help of a friend so he would cruise garage sales and re-sell at flea market tables or classified ads in local "penny saver" magazines.……. Once the internet took off it gave him a good opportunity to "flip" items without leaving home.
He had a miserable life confined to a wheel chair (after his 1970 war injury) collecting his disability check and did anything to make a few extra tax free bucks.

Tax free not anymore, they cracked down on Ebay and payment processors with $600. 1099's now. Kinda ***** the flippers ruined it for the people trying to retire and sell their old tools and assets now. I blame it on the youtubers who are fluanting what they are paying and selling for at garage sales.

I pay taxes when I buy it and then when I decide I don't want to use it anymore. We pay taxes when we sell it

You'll be pleased to know that the $600 threshold for 1099 forms has been extended again. And by the way the tax law hasn't changed recently- if you are making a capital gain on an item you sell on ebay, the gain may be taxable and pretty much always has been.

The main reason for the $600 threshold is because of the "gig economy" - there's lots of folks nowadays who make their income in small chunks, and a good portion of that is apparently not being reported.

Exactly, this is the truth.

besides him being correct on the extension, it only applies to a gain. This more for the crafty Pinterest crowd, the professional photographers using their iPhone and other people that create things.

Selling your grandmothers grand piano, or the Flathead V8 you bought for $100 and sold for $800 would technically trigger the 1099, but no One could prove a gain on those.

Even if you bought new snap on tools at 50% of retail and flipped them for retail, without a truck you’d have to sell a decent amount of tools to generate a profit that would concern the IRS. Anything the IRS would care about, you’re likely on the verge of being a legitimate business anyway.

You have it backwards. The gain is presumed and it's up to you to maintain records that prove your basis (cost) in the item plus other costs and whether the transaction generated less net profit than the income reported on 1099. If you are audited and don't have any records you are in for a pounding.

It gets more complicated because "hobby" income is reported on Schedule I of your 1040 and doesn't give you any place to record your cost of goods sold. So at some point, which is unknown, you will trigger a paper audit based on a discrepancy between your 1099 reports from ebay and your Line 8.

That’s more how I thought it worked. A total abuse if you ask me.

Thats my thought also. I do use ebay for some business items and claim what i sell along with their expenses, but who keeps receipts from personal items you have had for years. Why should i have to give it away at a yardsale for 2 to 5 dollars when someone is only buying it so they can flip it for a hundred or more. eevn if i sold it for hundered I still have a loss but without a receipt , its now a gain.

Without going too deep into this rabbit hole, I strongly urge you to get your information from the IRS and/or a tax professional.
A good place to start would be
https://www.irs.gov/businesses/what-to-do-with-form-1099-k#personal

Particularly the section "Personal items sold at a loss"

And note that "Just because a payment is reported on Form 1099-K doesn't mean it's taxable."

It's not nearly as bad as you may think.

Channellock 360 welding pliers pretty good deal at $21.39

And now for the flipper topic.... I too find it incredibly frustrating. Not that I mind people making a buck, but the increasing prevelance of people doing it is adding nothing of value to society. Just holding costs up and trying to clip a ticket instead of doing anything productive. I put the semi-professional flippers in the same category as people who try and profit by buying up toiletpaper/etc in a disaster

Amazon’s Vine program triggers a 1099 similar to PayPal or other things. I put it down as hobby income because otherwise TurboTax was prompting me to create a business entity. The hobby income was taxed about 40%.

eh...I wouldn't go calling them scalpers. Everyone's a middleman now a days and you'd be surprised at the ROI of some of the stuff big box stores get on China stuff.

I was going to get the HF trickle charger but found a few of these on Amazon that I'll try my luck on:

IMHO, Good prices on these ^ BUT I would stay with the popular chargers/maintainers (NOCO, Battery Tender) because I know of two garage fires in my local area that were traced back to these cheap Chinese maintainers.

I was going to reply earlier and say the same thing. I only use Ctek chargers, I have four of them now. There were some issues with the Noco chargers letting out the magic smoke a few years back.

C Tek is another quality bra…
BTW! "Magic Smoke" is one thing but bursting into flames is a totally different thing. I was at one fire scene about 16 years ago where the maintainer was laying on the cloth seat of an antique car and it was very obvious what started the garage fire. When I asked the owner about the maintainer he said he purchased new it at a swap meet for about $10 and it was NOT a brand name.…….. Most likely it a "Battery Tinder"

My initial comments on this were generic, but this supports my point which I still stand by. There are multiple scenarios where you'll have payment income show up on a 1099, but you don't have to pay taxes on it, especially dealing with older stuff.

Remember, the only new portion of the law is the 1099 generation by a third party payment processor at a much lower dollar amount than previous. You've always had to claim a profit or loss on items sold at garage sales, ebay, craigslist and other places.
