These came in. Most impressed w/the micrometer for the price....though the bottom anvil appears to have a tiny chipped edge....faces are fine.

Both the compass & other caliper were fairly oily; compass says ss and is less magnetic than the other one which says 'carbon steel'; had hedged on mislabel but might be accurate; I'd skip on this one and look for other similar priced vendors, I'll be returning it or using it for scribing (it's accurate) and getting ones below. This last one also needed edges touched up. I should've paid more attention to them being metric only but decent purchase none the less. The brass seem handy being pocket sized. Also TIL how to eyeball down to the hundredth's of a mm:

These both got here. Certainly more premium construction. The vernier is as scratchy as the cheaper ones but screws may be too tight, I'm happiest w/the scribe, it comes w/a replacement tip, no plastic case but a nice pleather pouch. It slides a lot smoother but there some slop in torsion. It came water stained on the ruler though. It's likely to get a lot of use.

I can't decide if I want to add one more largish tool to my workshop, so I'm posting it here for convincing or deterring. I need something to sharpen chisels and knives, but sharpening stones are a lot smaller and easier to store...

Typical retail: $350 - $400ish
Amazon: $103

1x30 belt sander w/a jig. There's some fancy ones that tilt and look like baby 2x72"s. I've got a vevor that many seem to be happy with for the task. I've been using it for shortening bolts and grinding small parts. :

I was looking at a similar option 6" for 125$ but this seemed like too good a deal to pass on based on other prices online so I ordered one. The vevor one looks pretty good because it's got the bolt-on reversible jaws.

the 8" 6jaw got here. Looks good, no outside jaws provided but suspected as much by googling part number. The rotary tool holder looks good too.. The round belt is fine and welded w/a lighter....pro-tip, belt sander makes quick work of removing the flashing and doesn't clog the belt. FWIW, the 10mm works but is oversized on a 3/8" pulley so I'd do belt width-2mm (or more) for better engagement

You do know you can use the steps in the jaws to hold outside work, right? It won't have as much engagement as flipping the jaws, but it will be able to grab.

I'm aware you can grab onto bores w/the outside of the inside jaws, that's not what outside jaws are for. Here's a picture:

Yes, I get that C1 will be bigger than A1. I don't know of any chucks that are not reversible jaws that sell both an internal and external option in the same package. However, I have enough for my current lathe/mill to last me, so haven't looked very hard.

I guess more my point was that a 6-jaw is more specialized to start with vs a 3/4-jaw scroll, so needing an external set of jaws for a 6-jaw would require an more specialized setup.

All the new chucks I've gotten the last few yrs come w/both sets of Jaws. Lots of vintage chucks come w/both sets....this one's offered w/two sets in a different brand. Maybe I'm missing what you're saying. The bolt-on jaws of the different model are indeed reversible when you unbolt and flip them.

Got this one and runout was >10 thou w/visible scoring/burrs/marks on the taper. Making Amazon send a replacement....I've been pretty brutal w/returns the last 6 months....I'm starting to see it as my moral duty to keep them honest. That I get deep refunds or free items is a sacrifice I'm willing to make. :D. We'll see how long before "tiered prime membership"

I'll chuck this one and dial it to see how bad it is once it gets here. Good enough to cut wrench flats or hex heads for the price I reckon.
