do these work good? I've always just used a bench grinder but for the really small drill bits its hard to get the correct angle

I've always been waiting on a deal for one that does spade bits. that's the only model that makes sense for me. not that I won't buy something I really don't need either :D

With amazon, always put the item link into camelcamelcamel.com and see how much the price fluctuates. Some are all over the map.

I have the top model and have used it quite a bit. It does a great job for what it is. It will take a few minutes of practice before you can do a good grind (tendency to leave a bad rake on the drill if you don't hold it right), but after a very small amount of practice, you will get it right every time. It's certainly way better than hand sharpening or those ubiquitous dinky little grinder arm attachments in my opinion.

Bought a truck year ago or so. Had a 5/16 drill sitting in the bed. Nasty as hell, kept it by accident as I was moving into my house right around the same time as I got it. Since it turned up again I cleaned it up enough to see its a USA made Cman who knows how old but it cleaned up pretty nice, so I put it in the pile and forgot it. Got the DD out a few months ago, went through the pile, tossed most of it, kept that one and a few others. I've had some **** drills over the years, kept most of that pile to reorient myself with the DD, try changing the cut angle, etc.

Just used that drill for the first time last weekend. One of the best cutting drills I own. This particular one was the biggest size so I experimented, followed the instructions to do it as a split point. Messed it up twice along the process had to start from the beginning with it but it's worth taking your time to get it right.

If you use Chrome for your web browser (highly recommended by the way) you can get a free extension - the Cameliser (from Camel Camel Camel) that tracks the price.

For example, that sharpener was $38 on Dec 2nd. You can also set a 'price watch' on an item - if the price drops below a certain dollar amount, it will send you an email

They work great, however small bits below 1/16 not so much, at least I have not been successful. Small bits are cheap enough to just buy as needed, sharping is a waste of time.

Greg

BTW if buying the DD, the cheap DD is ............. cheap ****. Cause something is CHEAP, does not change the quality... some, lots don't get it
