The Hitachi Metabo HPT merger seems to be producing sales on some excellent Metabo branded grinders.

These were $150+ for a decade.... made in Germany AFAIK

I'm not sure which line of reasoning to take here. Buy the $90 offering and know that it hasn't been messed with.

Buy the $73 dollar offering and try to believe any issues have been addressed.

I love Metabo, but this model does not have great reviews on Amazon. On the other hand, I could use YAG (Yet Another Grinder). :headscrat

There's a reason the older W8 series of a decade ago sold for $150 and the today's W9 sells for $90. Metabo did some "value engineering" on the new series. You can definitely tell the difference when comparing the two side by side.

Interesting, I havent heard this till now. My W8 is about 3yrs old, havent put to much milage on it.... I typically reach for my very nice Hitachi G12VE Brushless.

Love that Hitachi, but the Metabo and my Fein are both very nice grinders.

As Tarbell said, Fein makes a beautiful grinder. Like my Fein a lot better than my W9 Metabo. Amazon's renewed listing for that is a little sneaky too, its easy to think its a new one.

I think the merger has hurt the Metabo premium brand and caused alot of confusion for people on either one of the battery platforms (HPT or Metabo) as I've seen by some of the negative reviews for tools and batteries of people saying "my hpt metabo battery doesn't fit this metabo tool!". It was a stupid idea by someone in Marketing or Branding.

If you can get one of the non-Chinese Feins you won't regret it!

Sorry no deals but the Fein angle grinders continue to be some of the most under-appreciated power tools here in the States. Ignore amp ratings on the Feins, just like with vehicles max horsepower on paper does NOT tell the whole story
