A friend just picked up an old split head hammer at a garage sale the other day. It got me thinking I'd like to have one. This says acceptable but asong as the cast piece is in good shape I could replace the inserts and the handle and still come out ahead.

Wow. I don't know if it has anything to do with why this got returned initially, but the image suggested this was the model 50. Had I bothered to look at the model number, I would have realized that this is the model 80. Anyway, it's so awesome, and was such a deal, I will definitely be keeping it, but this thing is a beast.

Wow! good for stuck wheels too! Is it balanced nice?
No! It's crazy head heavy. However, apparently the simplex system is all about mixing and matching parts and there is a longer, 27.5" hickory handle available for the sledge that is probably more appropriate for the cast iron head.

If you wanted one that was more balanced in this handle length, there is an aluminum version that would probably be better, although the aluminum housing is only available up to the size 60 (vs 80). Otherwise, a smaller head would make more sense if you wanted to stay with the cast iron housing (remember, I thought I was getting a smaller head).

Last year I ordered a used Vaughan 587-12 SH150 Split-Head Hammer with Rawhide Face and 1.50-Inch Face Diameter from Amazon warehouse and it was missing the leather inserts that are very expensive to replace. I returned it. It seems to be making the rounds back and forth... I was not the only one disappointed :cautious:.

Just the other day my venerable Fluke clamp-on multimeter started having some issues. The timing of that Southwire is pretty appropriate, and it is now en route to my shop. Cheers!

No DC current according to the specs. AC current only. This doesn't surprise me. Amazon seems great at misleading descriptions. I regularly read customer reviews complaining about inaccurate descriptions after receiving a product.
That sux...
Posted because of the DC, figured it was a deal for that alone.
