Inspected means NOTHING when its a AWD item. I have been getting about a 30% maybe 40% success rate buying awd stuff lately.

Lots of wrong items in the package for something else or missing items etc.

30-40% seems pretty low but I've noticed it seems to be getting worse for me, the two prior things I bought were bogus. I did just get 500' of Rain Bird 1/2" irrigation tubing from Amazon Services LLC for $33.76 and it looked perfect. I'm not sure if that's the same as an AWD or not?

I have to agree with you. 30-40% seems real low.

My success rate is around 95-98%, and I place about between 80-100 orders of AWD items each year. A large majority of that is in cabinet/drawer pulls though. (I'm a professional cabinet maker so go through a ton of them)
Most of the time it appears as if the boxes the pulls come in are destroyed because of the weight and they price them lower since they have to repackage them. Once in a while they will be missing the bolts to attach them. I've never gotten an order of pulls though that I had to send back. I get a great feeling everytime I get an order in, lol. Its just so nice to be paying 50 cents a pull for the same thing that lowes charges $10 for.

The only time I've had problems was electronics. I once ordered what was supposed to be unlocked cells phones, and they were completely bricked.

I got a bad airbrush once...full of dried paint.. otherwise I am 100% satisfied.

Had a few issues with regular Amazon, though. Most recently an indoor tv antenn $10 more tan other , similar Antennas. Bought it because of the five star rating rather than the 4 or 4,5 ratings of similar imported antennas.

Ends up the vendor was offering a $10 Amazon gift card if you gave the product a five star review.

That’s plain crooked.

I returned the product rather than support that scam.

In fairness, it wasn’t Amazon itself doing this, rather a vendor.

Wonder if can you change your # of stars after the fact, or delete the review and do another review later?

It’s worth taking a shot sometimes.

I was looking up this tool set

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00009K760/?tag=atomicindus08-20

For someone looking up a starter set a few weeks ago because these used to be really solid Taiwanese tools. Well I spot a warehouse deal for $18.86 claiming “Refurbished” (how exactly you’d refurbish it I don’t know). I ordered it figuring I’d get some other cheap Allied set because Allied makes some complete junk like those $4 pot metal socket sets you see at Harbor Freight. Nope was the full set looking virtually unused. Unfortunately they aren’t quite what they were 10 years ago (cheaper case and the ratchets don’t feel as nice as they use to) but at $18.86 it was a darn good deal.

I think it’s the potential reward vs. the hassle of returning it if it doesn’t work out.

That Williams 3/4 inch set I posted in the warehouse permathread was $120 cheaper than it normally went for.

I tend to be leery of computer stuff because I don’t trust the people checking the stuff to have great enough knowledge or enough time to properly test it.

So for all my complaining about AWD inspectors here's a win: I ordered a folding Conti GatorSkin 700x25 for my road bike and got TWO in an "inspected" bag. Win for me, and no, no guilt. Last time I got a 28c when I ordered a 25 (which I decided to just keep 'cause dirt roads don't scare me) so this is reparations

TL;DR sometimes incompetent inspectors work in your favor

I got an AWD in my travels thru the digital highway recently. A Badger 150-7 Airbrush kit. The professional complete kit... for $40... It usually sells for closer to $100, with a retail higher... and I was looking to get into airbrushing... snagged it.

Listed as "Like New"... BUT it arrived and I immediately took inventory of the many parts that were to be included... and... the box was partially raped... missing the "Medium Tip" assembly. It had all three needles.

One call to Badger and the small cost of $11... got me the missing part.

Most people would probably have taken a different route... attacking Amazon "to make it right"... but to be honest... what do you REALLY think Amazon would have done. They would have let me return the thing... to which … they would have just turned around and sold it again.

So for $11... I stopped the merry-go-round... and got a $100+ airbrush for the total sum of $51.00

I've had pretty good luck with AWD.

Misses:
Abranet abrasive sheet assortment: listed as 6", actually 4". Easily returned.

Vestil polyethylene forklift fork covers: only received 1 instead of 2. Credited in full and kept the single.

Klein wire strippers: badly damaged, wouldn't close fully. Easily returned.

Recent Hits:
Ratcheting come along: received new in box, even had a longer chain than listed, which sure isn't a bad thing.

Aven wire cutters: perfect condition, very sharp, very cheap

Bondhus Allen keys: cracked clamshell packaging, tools were new and perfect for 50% off

Little giant condensate pump: perfect shape, damaged box, works perfectly.

JustRite galvanized 22 gallon flammable cabinet: scratched and dented, but fully functional and $500 less than retail. Shipped common carrier, which isn't cheap.

Durham steel wire rack: missing hardware, a few bends in the sheet metal. Half price, and $5 in hardware and a few minutes with a sheet metal vice grip and it's fully functional.

No complaints at all with AWD. I'd never buy electronics or anything fragile, but I've saved several thousand dollars.

GM.... I think if you play the AWD game you will run into some bad items. It has probably happened to all of us and certainly has happened to me more than once. As for savings....I have saved a boat load but I also add the disclaimer that I have probably bought more things than I would normally because they were too cheap to pass up so it might be a wash!

Speaking of deals... time to post a few... missed last weekend as I was attending a forging class with my son.
