In the Q & A section of this product's page, someone says that the fluorescent bulb is hardwired and not user replaceable. The 1.88x magnification is also considered less than optimal by many who have purchased this type of lamp.
I was in the market for this style of light a few months ago and after much research bought a Vision Wave 5-Diopter LED magnifier.
I will bet the person who said the bulb was hardwired was simply confused, or meant it couldn't be replaced with something else.
I agree about the magnification, I have a 5 diopter one, but there's a use for smaller magnification, because of the greater working distance and field of view. I'm pretty sure the magnifier on my sewing machine is 3 diopters (with a higher magnifying inset), and it's pretty close to perfect for that use.
