It's really curious that certain items are gone literally within 20 seconds of your posts. I have been watching this for a few weeks and it's also curious the same item is listed on for sale sites early the following week. Has happened often enough to think it is not coincidence.

I suspect someone is running a script that automatically buys the items you post in certain categories.

You may want to consider posting the photo but not the link. The link makes it easy for a script or bot to scrape the link from the page and buy the item. The description in the photo is enough for a real person to find the item.

I had the foot switch in my cart. When I went to check out it was gone. So strange that even in your cart it is not safe. You have to be fast!

I was finding that on a few things, but I too was also grabbing a few things as soon as they were posted, as you sort of half to, just to get them

edit: one being the same item as above. lol

It would save me a few seconds in each post not having to paste the link... if the thread is getting scraped and people are missing out on deals....then you guys tell me... link or no link.... ?

Please keep the link. It makes viewing the deals so much easier...
This thread is watched by hundreds of people, and many deals are popular. If there is something I really want I buy it quickly.

I highly doubt the thread is getting scraped...but if it was adding OCR to the scraping would make it so they would always be faster than the regular people.

But I could be wrong. And as always I greatly appreciate the work that you do sharing all these deals.

Please keep the link. I'd never find the item otherwise :bounce: That said, I mostly window shop if it helps others out by dropping the links then do it.

ETA: As always thanks for your effort

If you want GJ people who are not using scripts, e.g. normal board users, to get the deals, leave out the link.

If you don't care if people using bots and scripts get the deals before anyone else has a change, leave in the link.

It's easy enough to find the deals without the link by searching on the title in the pictures you post.

I was skeptical, too, until it was privately confirmed by a GJer who is a flipper. One reason I did not mention it earlier is that I wanted to be certain and not jump to conclusions.

When you consider that 17 people were reading this thread this morning and many of the items were gone before the posting was even available to users with higher ping, it seems to further confirm the script scenario.

could you please tell me an example of such a for sale site? or PM me?

scraping and automated buying is not hard to believe, but i'm just surprised that someone would rely on the efforts of mostly one guy (like Duker) for their business. if that were my (side) business, i would not bother with scraping this thread. unless these guys place a very high value on our product selection bias :headscrat :D

1) even without more sophisticated tools, you can just search amazon directly for steep discounts in certain categories and cross reference original prices with third parties for confirmation. this can be automated, and you will reveal more deals that way. and faster, too.

2) better still, there are powerful 3rd party amazon data APIs available for less than $20/mo. i would use one of these.

not saying someone didn't write a script to scrape this thread to alert himself or even automatically buy things.. but that's definitely not what i would do. lol :dunno:

Duker, thanks as always for your posts. Do you assemble your list throughout the week or night before you post? Maybe this is why items are gone so quickly rather than a script. They’re actually gone before you post. I know that wrench holder was gone around 4am central cause I had it in my cart but someone beat me to it.

No links would be un-handy on my cellphone early Saturday mornings. I generally get 3 - 5 items a month directly from Duker's posts.

Link, no link, I'm ok either way. I might suggest a trial run of no links for say two weeks to see if the items are still disappearing before people on here can buy them. It would be helpful, but it would also take some effort, if people would post if they bought something or if the item was gone before they could react.

I flip some stuff when the opportunity presents itself but nothing like buying and reselling this kind of stuff. I'm more into tractors, mowers, RVs and such. Personally I'd much prefer an end user ended up with the deal rather than a flipper, even if that flipper who loses out is me.

Yeah I think that would be a good idea.

Please leave the links, it makes it super easy.

Whenever I get an item, I always post that I grabbed it and thank the poster(Duker).

If I don't get the item, I move on, probably didn't really need it anyways.

It does seem Duker puts in quite a bit of work for these Saturday am postings, nothing stopping any of us doing the other 6 days. Lets not ruin it for him or us.

I get about half during the week and the rest on Friday. It’s my way to wind down for the week having a beer (or if it’s been a rough week something stronger) sitting on my porch perusing through Amazon. Things definitely sell by the time I am ready to post all the time. This morning I had about eight items that were gone by the time I went to post them. When I click on a tab in my browser it automatically refreshes so its easy to see if its gone or still available. Ifs it’s available I take the pic and post. I know things do go quick as I have gone back in to edit immediately after posting something (I didn’t copy the whole description etc) and its already gone. It’s certainly possible that it doesn’t refresh all the time and I can double check that going forward.

Thanks John, we have had some others post deals ( as I have benefited from some ) so as long as I still enjoy the hunt i will keep posting!

As for links, I forgot that Ryan gets a referral from the links so it’s in all of our best interest to keep posting them as it helps support the site.
