i think several if not all of the occ/jr designed bikes are amazing.
whether they built every single part on the bike or farmed it out to another company....
it's a business...sometimes it makes more business sense to have someone else build a light, a frame or a fender, etc....occ still gets the credit...name one other company that creates/makes every single part on everyone of their products???

Can't do that, but your question reminded me of a show on History channel a few years ago. The lead-in to the show has a clip for a guy who, "makes custom samauri swords by hand from scratch".

So I figure the guy is going to start with a piece of steel off the shelf and hammer it into a sword with great skill. No. The guy starts by hiking into the woods and mountains of Pennsylvania to dig his own iron ore out of the ground. By hand. With tools (pick, shovel) that he made himself. He smelts his own iron and makes the steel that he turns into a sword.

Fawk. Now that's making it "from scratch". The finished product was beautiful too.

I did watch the show when it first came out a few years ago, somehow all the fighting between the Father and his son turned me off.

I don't remember the name of the other show years ago where the owner made custom cars, I seem to remember his name was Boyd cottington (not sure if I am right with his name),he would also get angry, like paul Sr. Even his No.1 man would fire people left and right,I did not like that show either. I do seem to recall that he died and his No. 1 man never even went to his funeral.

I do not like all the constant fighting in these shows. The only show that the owner was very nice and he treated his help in a friendly manner is the show that steals the car and rebuilds it for the owner (sorry I forgot that name also). At least everyone is happy in the end.

there's no doubt the OCC shows are soap operas for men. Still, they're entertaining to watch. I wouldn't call either of them motorcycle builders--more like motorcycle customizers. IMO to call yourself a motorcycle builder, you have to build the frame, not just bolt stuff on and cut up a gas tank and fenders.

Overhaulin with Chip Foose. Chip used to work with Boyd Coddington in the past and was the guy that made the Boydster come to life. Also was the maker of Eleanor from gone in 60 seconds, but Chip is a very cool guy and is a true artist and designer.

I just watched this week's episode where they launched "Paul Jr" with the slingshot (DVR).

I haven't seen the show in a couple years. I think Paul Sr has had some work done. The crows feet on his eyes are gone and his brow is much smoother. It's good work though. Not that weird looking shite like Jerry Jones or Mary Tyler Moore have. Yeeek.

:shocking:

You would have thought that Jerry could afford more than the $0.93 that he payed for his face lift (I hope he didn't pay more :)). Must have been a special on EBay.

they started making their own frames the last couple seasons. well, it was mostly vin and rick doing that part, but they were still occ frames

I have to wonder what will happen with V Force customs.

Its done. Why would Vinnie leave a profitable company to go to work for Jr.?

Anyone remember the show where he couldn't get a bike running for the unveiling. They kept working on the ignition and it turned out to be push rods that were too long. Vinnie is quite the bike mechanic:confused:

I don't believe they.re the best bike builders and I don't CSI solve every crime either but I watch both for entertainment and I enjoy both the one that annoys me is Chop Cut Rebuild and the way the annoying host has to get involved in everything!

The old mans endless bickering on American Choppers stop me from watching the last few years. I like the new show Jr Vs Sr. The show that really pissed me off was "Pimp My Ride"

Frankly I am amazed at the egos of Paul Sr. and his "handlers" or managers or whatever those guys do. And that Jim Quinn guy, while having talent, thinks he's gods gift to fabrication on the flojet.

I just want to know who's looking over the books, and if that person is able to tell the truth to Senior without him throwing a rolling chair thru two walls.

There is the one guy on Sr's staff that is the one that wishes he was Sr's son and Sr says "he the son I wish I had" That *** kissing little puke will fing out one day that blood is thicker than water and all the remarks he makes about Jr is going to come back to bite him in the ***. I would have fired anybody who was an *** kisser like that.

I have to wonder what will happen with V Force customs.

In the most recent episode Vinny was wearing V Force and Paul Jr. t-shirts and hats. He seemed to switch off between the two throughout the show. He also seemed to leave early at times. I wonder if he's splitting time between the show and V Force. Being on the show does give his brand some facetime and probably puts some money in his pocket.

First the OCC shop was all Snap-on, then they went Craftsman Pro.

When the show first started, most of their boxes and hand tools were Craftsman. Lots of raised panel wrenches and ratchets on their tool carts. Then they went SnapOn when they made a bike for Snappy. After that their boxes were NAPA when they built a bike for NAPA. The next greatest thing was C-man Pro so they had Craftsman boxes again.

Last thing to be the best ever was Kobalt. They made a bike for Kobalt and had Kobalt boxes and tools in the shop. Maybe next Harbor Freight will be the greatest tools ever and we'll see the HF roll arounds in the shop while the guys rave about their new Pittsburgh hand tools.

The tools on the show clearly out class the stars of the show. Paul Sr may be a big guuy with a big heart but his attitude is often ****. Still that being said, I'd rather sit down and BS with him than Boyd Coddington, that dude was an outright *******.

Its a shame, a helmet would have saved him.
There is a lesson here[/QUOTE]

maybe. maybe not. While it was reported he died of head injuries he also had a broken neck. Anytime someone is seriously injured and not wearing a helmet the media makes the most of of that fact. We had a call about 5 years ago. Two bikers on rice rockets were racing and both were going in excess of 120. The came around a long winding curve and hit a stopped school bus. One rider was decapitated(wearing a helmet) the other ones heads was barely hanging one. The newspaper had a feild day over the accident and wrote extensivly about the one guy not wearing a helmet. We were on the scene when the found the guys helmet with his head in it in the ditch 60 yards from the back of the bus.

Actually I think he was referring to the show on discovery that started the same time as American Chopper, was American Hot Rod. I used to love watching that..not the Stupid BS Drama but some of the craftsmanship that was put out by his guys, like Roy, that did all the metalworking, I have HUGE respect for that kinda skill... Course Boyd and Roy are both passed now...

Well, to be fair, there was never a whole lot of fabrication taking place. :bounce:

There used to be a lot more hand made parts back then :shocking: before the waterjet machine started making mass-produced copies :shocking:. Plus in the early days you got to see more of how everything came together from Jr. thoughts to the finished product. Now its all about the familly squabbles and majicaly a theme bike pops out at the end.

True a helmet won't protect you from everything but I saw footage of Indian Larry's crash and it was very low speed in a parking lot. I couldn't help thinking what a waste.

The toolboxes everyone is talking about in Paul Jr.'s shop are Lista. We installed a large workbay with red and black cabinets and workbenches, stainless steel countertops and backsplash, overhead cabinets and a mobile technician's toolbox. We're working on getting larger logos on the products so you all don't have to guess about who made this awesome looking workbay!

There was never a deal for a bike. They made it sound like we were giving them hope, but we basically said no to the custom bike from the word go. We gave them the beautiful workbay but really didn't get credit for it, just dissed for not buying a $125,000 bike (which is way out of our league)!

for the price of those cabinets, each sales rep from lista should be able to have there own custom bike!!!!!

the drama of these shows are acted out anyway, this is why we have all these reality shows, people like to watch other peoples drama.

the drama brings ratings, building bikes didnt as much.

ratings are more important to the show producers than the people who want to see the real stuff.

so therefore, these shows follow a script and stick to it to make higher ratings.

how much truth do you think there is in most reality tv? come on!!! if you said all of it is true, then you are a retard!!!! the answer is none.

I don't understand why Lista gave up a season of potential advertising because they couldn't quickly come up with larger logos?

I would've had a local sign shop whip up some vinyl stickers until something more permanent could have been fabricated.

Lots of viewers x a few episodes with blank red toolboxes = much missed potential.

disagree...sure a lot of it is staged...but not scripted...of course there has to be a rundown of what will be done on any given day for planning purposes for the crews involved...
