Hi. New the the forum but have been lurking a while.

Figured while I'm here seeking some info I'd post up some pics of a project I did a while back(few years ago now).

Here's the garage door I painted in the house that I own with my sister back in IL.

Unfortunately I'm in PA for a while and am just renting... really wish I could get my own place so I could start building my dream garage.

Technically not legal size I did my best.
Although I'm a little less proud of my country lately it's still a great one.:canada2:(no USA flag:sad:)

My old '96 I sold next to my '69 I'm still working on.

I miss this ride. Lots make fun of the C4 but man was it awesome.

Although I don't plan on living in this house again(sister lives there and will be a rental eventually) I will at least get a photo shoot of the '69 when I move back to IL.

The previous owner of the house was a school carpenter and from what I could tell built everything in the garage out of scraps... terrible quality and would have all needed redone if I was going to live there long.

OK, I'm intrigued...How did you execute the Stars? Stickers that you removed after painting over with blue?

It looks a lot more perfect in the photo than it actually is in person. Not that it's ugly in person but still...

For the stars I just used regular stencil plastic you get at any craft store. It's a very thin plastic that flexes a little. Cut out the star then taped the plastic over where it needed to go. I had about 3 of those stencils and just kept moving them around as they got painted and dried slightly. Before I started I measured out where the center of every star needed to go off dimensions of the flag found online.

It's been so long but pretty sure I painted the metal pieces with metal primer first.
Then I painted everything white(except the blue section).
Then I taped off the stripes and painted them red.
Then I painted the stars.

Pretty sure I made the flag fit correctly top to bottom and that kept the blue section at exactly the center part of the door. According to that dimension it needed to be about a foot wider than it actually is but I just shorted the stripes to fit and it wasn't too off that it's noticeable(at least to me)

I'm not sure I could work with The General / George C. Scott scowling at me all the time.

Wow. This thread is still going? lol.

Well I've lived in PA now for 4 years but am finally moving back to IL(to the house with the flag door) in 2 months.

My vette in the 4 years isn't quite done but will hopefully still make for some good pictures once I get back there.

The garage I rented in PA has been good to me though. Well insulated and larger than the flag door garage so it'll be sad leaving it behind.

Well it's been a crazy last few months.

I made the 700 mile trip back to IL and the night I got back our neighbors son was in town (neighbor was 98 and had died back in Feb.) So we offered to buy her house when he decided what he wanted to do with it. Two months later I'm moving yet again. Moving to her house and doing a complete restoration and renting ours out for some extra income. So I only got one cappy photo of my '69 with the flag unfortunately. I have some interesting plans for the new garage though :)
