I picked up several American Machinist journal from 1902 the other day for pretty cheap. They're in pretty good shape considering the age! They are really fascinating! The ads are pretty cool too, several vise ads along with all kinds of machine ads.
Are these things worth anything today?
Either way, I'll probably hang on to them. I just think they're cool.

You know if you see new planers being advertised its an old magazine! I think I was born about 50 years too late :)

As someone who manages a modern CNC machine shop, but who learned his chops on manual equipment, I like it!

Ebay. There's a few more on there but for like $25 each. Got them for $9 each. Don't know if they're worth anything but it was worth it to me.

Beautiful, I could read them from cover to cover. In my Dads stuff is a Link Belt Company catalogue from about 1907. Great images of materials handling systems in quarries and power stations in there.

Another thing I'm interested are catalogs. I think that's where we'll be able to date a lot of tool models that we can't seem to track down.

You know what's missing from all those great old tools and equipment? Plastic. The good ol' days when tools and equipment were made from metal.

Very cool! I have a Starrett catalog from, IIRC, 1936. My grandfather's. like $1 and change for an ought 0 to 1 mic. I've also got his Kennedy apprentice toolbox from the same era.
Has a few tools in it, like an apprentice would have. Not worth a lot, but to me, priceless.
