I answered an ad for a shuffle board selling for $20.00, the main board is what I wanted. Looks like fir 132" x 18". While there the lady showed me some tools she was selling stored in the back yard. I bought a AMF DeWalt RAS, the shuffle board, and a lawnmower needing a tuneup for a total of $50.00. Here's some pics of the RAS;

I plan on using the shuffle board top for the RAS. This will be my restore thread if I can remember to take pics as I go.

Nice saw - and a steal for what you paid. Radial arms saws don't get much respect these days. But you have a real work horse there. My dad had a Craftsman RAS, but it didn't, hold a candle to the DeWalts or Rockwells.

The round top arm puts it as a late 50's model - kinda they pinnacle of the production. Soon after it became a race to the bottom with cost reductions etc. Too bad really because these can be tuned to hold pretty decent tolerances especially when compared to the late model variants.

Last year(?) or so I picked up a MBF off Craigslist for $40. Not the great deal you got, but still dirt cheap. I spent more on a good blade than I did the saw!
If you do decide to restore and use it, a few sites/documents that I found helpful:

Rebuilding a Dewalt RAS
Wally Kunkle's book

I'll be interested to see how your saw comes out.:thumbup:

NIce! You found a gem!

My father had a similar DeWalt when I was growing up, in addition to a Craftsman. He kept the DeWalt set up with a dado stack and used the Craftsman with a single blade for crosscuts & miters.

Awesome, I have a similar AMF/DeWalt RAS with the green splatter paint job, but I've never seen one with that circular aluminum guard like yours has! Please keep us posted with your progress!

That is an awesome score. A very good RAS with a little TLC.

Not sure how familiar you are with them... if not so much then I suggest Wally Kunkel's (former marketing mgr. at Dewalt and RAS expert) book. I really enjoyed it.

Thanks, guys. It's been sitting since I got it "because race truck"...I have an upcoming race and am fixing a few things on the low buck race truck. I'm not that familiar with RAS in general, I used my dad's when I was a kid. I happened to pick up "mr.sawdust" several years ago and that's what prompted me to pick this up. I'll keep you updated as I start.

You can find more info at OWWM.org too. Also there's a DeWalt forum online. The DeWalts are great saws and I don't think your accessories are all that common.
Great score!
