Gents,

I am planning to build a 4-car, double deep garage with upper storage area.

I am satisfied with my Amish shed and am considering using Amish to build this garage.

Any thoughts on how big I'd need to go?

Has anyone in Virginia used Amish to build a garage? Is so, what was your experience?

Thanks!

Brent

I managed a small winery build about 12 years ago, using these guys for the structure.

Their communication was good. And the on-site crew was reliable.

The project was out in Purcellville.

I'm in central VA and used an Amish outfit out of PA to build my 24x40 pole barn last year. They were great to work with and had the building completed in 2.5 days...it was impressive to watch! They did not do concrete work in VA at the time, so I used a local guy for the slab.

I recently got an Amish shed through Countryside Structures in southern MD and was very pleased with the result. I had a separate concrete contractor do the slab and they built, delivered, and anchored to the slab. They serve parts of VA so it's possible that they could be up for it depending on your location.

Levi Hertzler is a great guy to work with and he runs the business with his family (I think all 8 sons are involved in one aspect or another). I don't know his expertise on larger garages, but he's worth talking to. Here's a couple of pics of the shed in progress.

I had a 24'x28' garage built on site by Stoltzfus Structures and had a great experience working with them. Took them less than a day to get it done and they were happy to make a couple of revisions to the building plans in order to comply with the Fairfax County building permit process. I had a separate contractor for the foundation and driveway. I then did all of the electrical work and interior finishes myself.

I'll highly second Stoltfus Structures in Atglen, PA. They built both my shed and detached garage. More than pleased with that they do!

It was a while back, a bit over 20 years ago but Conestoga built me a 30x40 pole building with 10' side walls. I was living in Clifton, VA in far western Fairfax County. They did a great job and I was very happy. I just replaced the roof, so it lasted. It is plumb and square. They used 2x6 footer boards so I dug it out, put in vapor barrier, wire, stone, etc. and we closed up the two garage door and sliding door exits and made a big form and poured the pad into it after it was built. It still looks great. I put in a lift. My one big mistake was not getting 12'

side walls for the lift.Shop.jpg

Over time, I framed inside the posts, wired, insulated and drywalled, and also added a porch.

Not great picture attached. The big 10 x 10 sliding door is on the back.
