Ammco Safe Arc 2000

I have a Ammco brake shoe arcing machine #2000 and believe that it is missing a few parts. Ordered a reprint manual off fleabay but would like to jump start my search for parts. Does anyone have an exploded parts drawing of the 2000-8000 series machines that they would share with me. I have a vintage car down for brake work and need to use my machine to arc both front and back shoes. I can most likely make missing components if I can see what they look like and figure out how they function'

I remember when they made us remove those from all are machines due to epa/osha regulations.

I guess you could make acceptable use of one with the proper dust collection system.

unfortunely all that stuff got thrown away decades ago

I believe the action taken was in the early 70's back when brakes and clutch friction surfaces were made with asbestos. Asbestos was banned in those products at the same time, the government monkeys never got around to lifting the ban on the machines. The dust they can produce from today's brake shoes is probably as harmful as saw dust, but as usual they know more than we do.

Just so you know; Wood dust is considered carcinogenic to humans (Group 1) according to the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC). IARC states that wood dust causes cancer of the nasal cavity (nose area) and paranasal sinuses (spaces in and around the nasal cavity) and of the nasopharynx (upper part of the throat, behind the nose).

Found a owners manual on the internet will be here tomorrow. I made a few parts to make the machine functional yesterday and arc'd several shoes today. Used the internal fan plus my 24" pedestal fan to blow what dust I generated out back rear of my shop.

Aren't these things basically just a sanding drum and a pivot to rotate a brake shoe around?

You are correct, but the machine grinds not in a true radius but in a cam profile. While the machine was "banned by the EPA, Ammco did design and market a a dust collection system the #8925 that they claim exceeds the the Federal Clean Air Standards set by the Occupational Safty and Health act of 1972.

Why the current machine owners at that time didn't employ this option is a mystery to me. I have always been interested in optimum performance, speed or stopping. When you are dealing with drum brakes, you need all your ducks in a row. Now with the elimination of asbestos there is even more reason to use these machines on vintage cars.
