I have 60 Amp breaker in shop. Anyone know how many amps a mini split uses? I have a 1500 sq ft.
very well Insulated. I’m estimating a 48000 BTU unit.

You're going to need to pick an exact model and check to be sure. Many 48K BTU units call for a 40-60A breaker.

Assuming detached shop? If so, to upgrade, you will have to replace the 60a feeder as you can't have two lines feeding a detached structure. If it is attached, you can run a separate line for the hvac.

How far is the run?

I'd go up to at least 90a, but sharing info on what other equipment you have will help with recommendations. If you are using all of the current feeder, you should go up to at least 125a. If you just have lighting and don't plan to change that, you can leave it alone

Gonna depend. Ratings on the unit should give you some ideas.
My 24k Daikins actually pull under 12A continuous (I've had them on 15A breakers, spec is for 20A).

48K is a lot of AC for 1500sqft. I'm south of you. Makes sense (maybe) if you need rapid cool down.

I'm on 90A service, but I've got other things (like a hot tub) that probably have it more like 60A left.. I think you're fine.

48K BTU seems big to me.
Way to big! Decent insulation, 24,000 BTU will be fine. If it is a poorly insulated screen porch then maybe 48K. If 24K will not do it, spend some money on insulation and rethink the size.

As for the electrical supply? I am running a typical residential split system in my shop and a 5 HP compressor on a 60 amp panel. I am certain I am stressing it with both running, but I have not noticed and issue. A 24K mini split will be fine. A 24K mini split runs on less than 20 amps, maybe 15 amps

Sounds like my set up, 24K mini split, 5hp compressor, 220V welder, lots of lights on and have yet to experience any issues. Cable run to the shop is 100+ feet and good for 125A, just discovered I have never changed out the 60A breaker that I installed 15 years ago and was supposed to be just temporary until I got a 100A breaker.
