amp rating?

Alright I'm confusing myself so hopefully someone can help me out. I know they're amperage ratings but what exactly does "1max(A)" and "1eff(A)" mean?

I'm thinking MAX current would involve a inrush current. And EFF would be normal operating current. Just a guess

so he needs #12 on a 40a TD fuse

odd there is no breaker option for 240v

Applies to welders:

I1max is for sizing overcurrent protection
I1eff is for sizing circuit ampacity

See NFPA 70 Article 630 for more detail.

Sorry, should have had more info in my post.
Yes it's for a welder, Miller 220 to be specific. Thought it was weird that it specs a breaker for 120 but fuses for 240.
I don't see why a 40amp breaker wouldn't work though.

Foot note 2 just specs RK5 fuses.

Well I guess the 15 hour day yesterday took its toll on my brain.

Had I just read the entire page last night I wouldn't have needed to ask you guys for help....all the info is right there in writing, even has that NEC article.
