Looking at a house, both the realtor and even the servicing electric company cannot confirm the amp service into the house - hard to believe! They're using words like "should be" and "probably".
Is there a way to confirm this by looking at the breaker box?
Any other way?

How old is the house? There should be a main breaker or fuse that would tell ya. Follow the wires back toward the meter, it should be the last box before you get to the meter.

Then it should be a big breaker in the main panel. It could be on top or the bottom, but its seperated from the rest.

Main breaker/disconnect switch may be outside at the meter. It still should have the amp value on the handle, though.

Get a look at the power bill, most list the service amperage, if not, call the utility co. and give them the service number or account number, they'll know for sure. RED

The largest breaker is what amp it is. It should be a 200amp, the entrance cable coming out from the top of the house should be 3 large wires for 200 amp and 3 smaller wires for 100 amp. I work for the local EMC for the past 21 years and do part time wiring....Redsled
