Rescued from oblivion. Opened the shell and found a AAA battery wedged between the two boards. No idea how to get to it to replace it Anyone can shed some light, or perhaps an instructions manual for this meter. All the manuals I've found only show a battery in series with the resistance probe, that's not it, these battery is internal. Thanks for any help.

I'd be interested in a pic, too! I've got three of the black RS3 "beetle meters", but they don't have an internal battery (which I like), though I remember having an older model in yellow plastic that may have had a battery inside.

The old black bakelite ones had a battery and a fuse in the probe, not in the meter case. The new (modern, yellow) ones have a battery in the case instead - and there's an obvious battery door on the back of the meter. I don't think I've seen any other variations. It kind of sounds like someone tried to 'modernize' an older meter.
