Amprobe Voltage recorder?

Found this among some stuff that belonged to my grandfather. Nearest I can tell, it's some type of recording device for voltage. Basically what you see is what's there, it's basically all in a briefcase. Any idea if this is worth anything or should I just chuck it in the circular file? TIA for any info...

If it still works, it's worth something to the right person. On problem is those things used thermal paper; t's possible the paper rolls you have are past their sell date and won't work anymore. You can still get new rolls but I don't know if the suppliers will have it for that particular device.

It's a strip chart recorder... Generally used to record transient response on generators or current curves on motors. Up until about 10 or 12 years ago that was the standard of proof that performance was as claimed.

Since then, fully electronic recording has taken over with encrypted data files that cannot be modified after the fact.

It's a novelty right now but like so many things would be valuable to the right person... In another 20 years you could start a thread on here for collecting them.

In the old days we would hook something like that up to a building that we suspected was experiencing a power fade during the night hours. For instance, an AC compressor would click off but everything else would be fine. You'd get reamed that the new AC was faulty. After reading the paper we could then show the customer it was not the equipment's fault - it was the power supply.

Nice old school machine for sure!
