can someone measure the inside bore of a 8an male fitting. I know the nominal size is 1/2 inch but based on other fittings I have I don't think that the bore equates to the nominal size.

Thanks.

it depends on who makes them. I've seen some larger than others.
I sell aluminum AN fittings, so I can measure mine when I get home for you.

Totally depends on brand. I have seen as large as 1/16" under nominal on bulkhead type fittings. Usually you're 2/16's (aka 1/8") under nominal size - ex. -6AN will have a .25" bore.

In certain applications that are low psig but high flow I will ream an undersized fitting to be 1/16" under. Using best judgment of course as this will reduce your effective sealing surface.

Now, when it comes to aluminum hose ends you will almost always have an ID 2/16" (aka 1/8") under nominal. This is because a -6 (3/8") tube will have minimum 1/16" wall thickness.

what I am trying to determine is if I need a 6an or an 8 an. I want to thread the inside with 1/2x28, that takes a 15/32 drill.

if you know that thread you will understand what I am doing.
