An Interesting Garage

Spotted this US garage at a car forum I usually visit. The house reminds me of Van der Rohe's Farnsworth house. The garage obviously is not set up for heavy mechanical work, but it would be pleasant to work there. Or just sit and look at that 300SL or Dino.

This is where the same old "thats not a garage, thats a museum" and "wheres all the tools" comments start flowing in.

I like that home and its "GARAGE"

Sure don't look like any garage I've ever seen. Then again, I don't get out much.

Here are two other views, posted on the same forum. The access to the "garage" seems to be the ramp leading to under the house. Yes, it's quite a museum. The owner might just have a workshop tucked away at the side. That would make it truly interesting. One could stay there for days.

This is a very modern design, quite different from the other styles on this forum.

By the way, the gas station/garage drawn at the header of Garage Journal is quite appealing. Nobody gas done that, I gather. That would be interesting too.

Thanks for the post. That is a beautiful house and I don't give a darn if there isn't a single screwdriver in it.

Nice place. Not sure I'd like to shower with my bum facing the backyard, but to each their own.... Or is that the front yard?

Agree on Mies' Farsworth House. Too much glass for any privacy.

But that museum/garage... What a clean place to show off the rides with nature as teh backdrop instead of how some rich guy thinks a garage should look.

Yep. To me, it most certainly is a garage, since a garage is where the cars sleep at night. The "shop" is where the lift is and all the work gets done. But that's just me...:shocking:

Most everyone is probably familiar with the Farnsworth house, mentioned in this thread, but here it is for comparison. The Farnsworth house by Mies van der Rohe was built in 1951 (almost 60 years ago!) on a flood plain in Plano, Illinois, USA. Its isolation was intended to provide it the privacy that its glass walls denied. I understand that privacy is now threatened by development, but it is a declared architectural monument and remains an icon of modern design.

I personally like the Farnsworth house and, in comparison with it, find the new house featured here "glitzy," in spite of its minimalist design. However, the new house does provide the answer to the car enthusiast's question "where do I park in the Farnsworth House?" Underground, although that may not be a good idea in a flood plain.

Flat roof designs like these don't work in colder climate geographical regions. Clean mordern design yes, my cup of tea no. I do like the old merc and classic dino very much. I am not a fan of the new Ferrari or the new Bentley (anything mordern).

If the glass were electrochromic or whatever it would offer some privacy and light control.

Is that the shower there above the garage?
