An other darn lift question...

Here is my question, i was thinking about getting a 2 posts low ceiling lift as i have 11' ceiling so i would have a bar at the bottom between both column.

My question is, since i have a pretty high roof on top of that, can i run the top of the lift (top brace and mecanisim) in the roof? I live in Canada (so cold weather during winter), would that affect the mechanic of the lift if the pulleys and cable are in the cold? That would permit me to buy a regular lift and not have to worry about the bar in the bottom.

Anyone has done an installation of this kind?

thanks a lot

yeah i know there are bottom plate but i would like to have a top plate to not have to go over that bump since only very low cars will go on that lift. Plus, i feel that those with a top brace might be a little stronger since the post can't really collapse one onto each other.

I could build some insulation on top of it, that's a fact.

and even thinking about it, the garage isn't going to be heated all the time so if the rest of the mechanism works ok in the cold before the garage gets to a nice temperature, i suppose the rest should follow...

maybe that was a dumb question after all...

Maybe i should be more looking at if the lift itself will work well in the real cold.

I know my cheap 4 post lift does so i don't see why a 2 posts wouldn't...

My father runs a two post top connected style lift in his 11' garage. The connector bar just clears the top side of the bottom chord of the trusses. There are two holes in the ceiling for the top of each post, and the cables and hydraulic lines feed up and over through them also. No problems whatsoever.

You might have to modify / lower the shut off switch/trip bar, if so equipped, so that you don't run the roof of your car into the ceiling.
And you have the trade off of a clear floor (permanent plus) vs. celing mods(one time negative) maintenence/inspection periodic negative as far as access goes.
Lifting heights for a floorplate model and clear floor seems to wash based on your lower ceiling height limit.
As far are temps go, probably just adjust your hydraulic fluids to a thinner fluid based on your typical operating temps, shouldn't be a problem. could be some condensation issues but good lubrication /maintnenence schedules should keep that in check.
Sounds do-able.
