Hi, my name is Scott, and I'm a compressor addict...
Spent a lot of time (once again) googling compressors I was eyeing/drooling over, and time and time again, I ended up here with some extremely knowledgeable people posting on threads related to said compressors I was researching.
Finally decided to join the forum -- not sure how much I'll be able to offer, but do appreciate all the help I've gotten over the years.
Some compressors I have: various hot-********* Ingersoll Rand "Energair" units, 2- 20gallon and one 30 gal., one of those is running. A V twin old and unknown brand pump with a Pool Service 2HP motor (yes it starts slow) on about a 30 gallon tank - it runs just fine (relatively).
Older IR tankless "tire Inflater", I think 1 HP, Oil-less and still a tank to lug around. New China **** California Air Tools induction motor with twin head pumps on a 5.5 gal. aluminum tank -- very quiet, but I'm on my 3rd attempt to find one worth using longer term.
One Curtis E57 on an 80 Gal. Tank with a 5 HP single phase 220v Baldor. Pump is not economically reparable, but maybe someone with more knowledge would think different, but the motor and tank are spares for the latest:
'60s vintage Saylor Beall 80 Gal vert. tank, 705 pump and Doerr 3 HP single phase 220V motor. I really like this "junk yard dog" looking compressor, and just getting into minimal fixes and needs before some testing to see what else it needs. It pumped up to cut-out, but had no pressure gauges to tell what that was - so grabbed a tire gauge with the linear pressure indicator post that pokes out, and it read 140+ psi. Well know in another day if that is real. Regardless of its looks, someone did love it in the middle of its life (as in service it). I like the sound of a 540 RPM pump...
Past my prime for much use in the garage, so last compressor was a bucket list item for me. We have several places apart from each other, so do need multiple compressors: a 3 car attatched garage (too small really, call it 2.5 car), a 24x24 shop/storage with 11' clear height in one direction and 15' the other (12'x12' doors coming in 90 degrees apart into those bays), then my latest: a gravel floor 3 sides shelter: 45' deep by 34' wide, in front: 14' tall x 20' w opening on one side and 9' tall x 14' w other side. RV was first reason and cover other stuff was second reason. This one is a work in progress as I have water and a couple circuits finished to the corner of building, but next I'd like to put swing out front doors on it (two for each "side"). Might put the big compressor up here one day if I slab in the floor...
Lots of cars, trucks, couple motor bikes, equipment, etc., all of that runs, but I need to downsize... Problem is I'm not much into parting with things as acquiring them...
